Star Choice Confusion...

Tired of living in Loreto for 3 years now without a TV. Friends said Star Choice is the way to go. They told me about some fellow that gets the equipment for you down here...one receiver, one dish, $500 plus installation fee.

Am I missing something....seems a bit spendy.

You can also talk to Los Frailes on ths site and he can fill you in on the FTA option for television. I would sugest sending him a U2u and he will give you the information. He set up a system for me and we are enjoying great television in Baja with about 250 channels.

TV

FTA is great. I like the programing more than Starchoice. The only problem is that it goes down. Twice this last week. It's not hard to fix as long as you are willing to go to a FTA site, download the fix and then download it into your receiver. I usually get the new bins in 12-24hrs. I also have Starchoice it works great without the gliches, you just pay a monthly fee and annual service fee. The cost of equipment is basically the same. If you want to contact the person in Loreto who can help you with Starchoice U2 me and I will tell you how to get in tuch with him:cool:

I have starchoice thru a friend. You can have up to 6 boxes on one account. I bought a bigger dish and new receiver in 2008 about 250 dollars U.S. We each pay 200 dollars a year for a full package and I'm sure my friend who set it all up rides for free. Been really happy with it except all that silly hockey, hurling and other snowy sports. Saludos g

Just as soon as Dish finishes distributing the new Nagra3 cards it will wack all FTA boxes.

The end is near.

That's what I heard, too, although it has been delayed yet again.

Did hear somewhere that if Starchoice finds out the signal boxes are used in more then one location, they stop all signals and kind of torpedo the boxes and make them useless.

That's not true. I have had to talk to their customer service peeps on various occasions. I just say that I am using a friends holiday home and they help me out. Just a little white lie:yes:.

Star Choice is one of two Canadian satellite providers (Bell ExpressVu is the other one). Star Choice is the better pick for Mexico, it has a superior signal strength for the same size dish. In todays Future Shop flyer a Star Choice high definition system costs $99.99.

The Sky is Falling ? AND the END is near ?

Well, maybe not.

While it's true, more or less, that eventually the conversion to Nagra 3 will make existing FTA units obsolete, there "appears" (according to reviews) to be at least one unit now being produced that is compatible with BEV's Nagra 3 encryption.

So, worst case for those of YOU who are having a good TV time with FTA, might be a new equipment investment. Those who have been using FTA have gotten their money's worth.

And Chicken Little says that the sky is falling. Bill is absolutely right, I have more than gotten my money's worth out of my Viewsat Ultra. If Nagra3 eventually comes out, the programmers think that they should have no trouble cracking the code in short order.
