ESCALERA....has the recession killed this beast?
Is it dead yet?.....I have not heard any news in a long while....between the recession and cartel violence I don't believe there will be ANY customers
for it now.....

We drove out to Rosalillita last Friday, nice little breakwater harbor with fuel tanks, a travel lift and nice office structure all fenced off and
unused while the local fishermen lanch their pangas from the beach next to the new facilitites. Nice paved road from Hwy 1 to the little town
though--

Four years ago they downscaled it and there is not much current news about it. Here's the link to the changes. If it is still alive it is called the
Sea of Cortez Project.

Always thought it was a strange idea to transport yachts across the peninsula from the Pacific to the Sea of Cortez and I was always skeptical of a
project this big ever being completed, so I'm not surprised it has been down graded. Next step will be "abandoned". Now lets see what happens to the
port in Colonet.

see below - blah , blah, blah. But if I read between the lines, they're finally listening to local people and environmental groups which have found
fault with the plans, and their intent has totally shifted to ecotourism, instead of boaters traveling both Pacific and Gulf coasts which, of course,
is ludicrous. A couple weeks ago, there was an article stating that FONATUR had a big $748 million budget cutback, so was scaling back some of their
projects.
"An integral part of the series, this document shows the current status of the Project, which is the result of a dynamic, inclusive and participative
long-term planning process, that gathers and incorporates the opinions of the state governments, the participating municipalities, the affected
communities, the civic environmental organizations, the private sector and the social sector, in such a way that the program becomes a continuous,
permanent labor of feedback and adjustment.
Under its new concept, the Project proposes to use tourism as a guardian of the ecological balance, the axis of a conversion from threatened economic
activities to others that offer better prospects for the inhabitants of the communities and indigenous towns.
FONATUR intends for the Sea of Cortez to become the new icon of Mexican tourism, and, as a strategy for making it so, to position it on the world
tourism stage.
Considering the richness and fragility of the ecosystem, tourism linked to nature has been selected as the target market: ecotourism, nautical
tourism, cultural tourism, rural and adventure tourism, sports and health tourism. These market segments are specialized, discriminating and aware of
their environmental responsibility.
To efficiently accomplish the objectives sketched here, they have been grouped into specific programs. The entire Project is embodied in three
programs: the Integral Tourism Regions, Ports of Call Singlar and Coastal Localities.
The strategic goal of the first program is to reduce poverty and regional imbalances by offering new employment and development opportunities to the
population not only along the coastal strip but throughout the territory, and to reorganize and stimulate tourist activity. To do this, this program
defines several small territories within the larger Region so as to formulate plans and design the most appropriate products for each place.
The nautical tourist segment has been selected as the the engine of tourism throughout the entire Region because it does not generate massive
concentrations of visitors, its activity is dispersed throughout the entire territory and so has low impact, such tourists seek contact with nature,
and they have high purchasing power.
The second program seeks to provide all of the services required by nautical tourists. Its main duty is to organize and operate a specialized network
of ports of call, develop their infrastructure, and offer, among other things, necessary services to boats and their passengers.
It is also a central objective to improve the quality of life of the population associated with these ports of call, and to prepare them to provide
services to the travelers and the new migrants who will settle there as a result of the Project. The Coastal Localities program, designed to
accomplish this purpose, consists of projects integrally planned as sustainable models of urban development.
The execution of the Sea of Cortez Project requires developing and maintaining open channels of communication, as well as taking advantage of the
federal government’s will and skills in orchestrating joint efforts, and the collaboration in the Project of state and municipal authorities, related
federal dependencies, legislators, private and community organizations, the academic and scientific community and civic and environmental
organizations.
This document introduces the Sea of Cortez Project, but it is also an invitation to build a better future for the Region. To attain sustainable
development is Mexico’s inescapable challenge."

That would mean the Punta Brava project that will only benefit a few peons and of course the ejidos, who got the real deal ? The current economy of
Mexico – and of course the narco war, this area would be great picking’s for WHO?
Woods,gets a nickel and the project goes down the tubes after the first kidnapping. The fishery becomes eco-trash and who benefited.
