San Ysidro/Otay/Tecate Options
I know, I know, everyone has THEIR BEST WAY for crossing north to USA. Recent discussion of time, traffic and safety made me go to my "Ross Perot"
chart for TJ/San Ysidro access.
I'm a free road guy, as I think it's the shortest, fastest and safest. What's Yours?

Did the Otaj 3 times last year with no problems except coming home with the wait at the boarder. No....... problems. But I think the
Tecate route is safer.

The free road IS shorter... but you have to go through downtown Tijuana/ Zona Rio... and a lot of us would rather avoid city traffic.
Hwy. 3 to Tecate OR Blvd. 2000 to Otay (only a few signals to deal with) is our method when on the Pacific side... which hasn't been much lately!

Nice map. 
Last time I was on the free road (red), they were doing construction and it took two hours to get to Rosarito.

i use the toll road when i get into tj, then get off at rosarito, than onto the free road again (still don't know the first entrance to get back on
the toll road) then i stay on the free part of the toll road until i get to la mision. i'm just looking for the best way to go without paying after
getting to la mision. can someonee help? hope what i am asking is clear.

How about a few of us consciously "time" our route next few times we pass through? Obviously the free road is substantially shorter in distance. But
the red lights really eat into that savings, if not negate it.
And does anyone know the reason the geniuses laid out 2000 that far East?

how about also finding the best economical route, fastest, when to get on the free road and when not to...that would be great. anyway, it's
interesting to learn that the free road is shorter.

how about if u just take the toll road to start, go shopping in rosarito and then get back on the toll road AFTER toll road entrance where it becomes
free?

The absolute fastest way to La Mision, Diana, is to cross at Otay mesa. Drive down to the first traffic light and make a left. Follow the directions
on the signs directing you to the Tecate toll road. In about 4 miles you'll reach Blvd 2000. (Since they finished the overhead road in that east part
of TJ, the traffic is very light.) Follow it to the end at Fox Studios. Turn left, and just before you get to Puerto Nuevo turn onto the toll road for
the free ride to the exit at La Fonda. That will take you to La Mision

I must disagree with UDO and DK here. I travel from Encinitas to just south of Rosirito Beach (K-38). It takes me 75 minutes.
I know from K-38 to the Otay border is 43 minutes. I assume it is the same going south. 75 minutes minus 43 minutes is 32 minutes. I can`t even get to
the TJ border from Encinitas in 32 minutes!!
So I say "Let`s race!!".
What you do is cross at TJ, hit the tool road, get off just south of Rosirito and the Pemex station, get back on the tool road at Raul`s, and away you
go!!

I was thinking of points well south of Rosarito... I don't know who would want to go there right now... Diana is in La Mision, as is the Pyramid
Resort... and the rest of Baja is beyond....
If you are only going to Rosarito Beach, then don't bother with the Blvd. 2000...

Hi Diana,
The Blvd. 2000 (BC 201) is a FREE 4 lane expressway that goes from just east of the Otay border to just south of Rosarito... It offers a way to the
border or to Tecate without dealing with Tijuana traffic.

While we mostly go to the San Felipe side of Baja, when we are on the Pacific side we will usually go to Tecate... longer drive but shorter wait
(usually).

Why don't you get a SENTRI card???????....cross at Otay and use the SENTRI lane

Took that route yesterday morning. Instantly regretted it. It took a good 45 minutes due to construction and red lights.
