This bad boy is dead on at 200 yards...fastest revolver on earth with bullets at 2300 FPS.

We all grew up hearing the phrase, "Faster than a speeding bullet...," but not when it is fired from Smith & Wesson's new Model 460XVR, with the highest muzzle velocity of any production revolver on earth. The Model 460XVR is so revolutionary that it required an entirely new designation...XVR, X-treme Velocity Revolver.

BIG Gun

Only a Sumo Wrestler could get away with concealed carrying that cannon.

Hitting your mark at 200 yards is OK, but the important distance is inside 100 feet.

Bill...with a XVR I doubt you'd have to even fire it..just seeing it would make the perp run with it's tail between it's legs.

Looks a lot like my S&W .41 Mag (from the cylinders back), also with Hogue monogrip. It's not exactly a CCW either, especially with the laseraim sight mounted. But I love it for certain kinds of hunting. It has only slightly less punch than Dirty Harry's .44 Mag but the tradeoff is less recoil and, for me, greater accuracy since it doesn't make me flinch. It has quite enough knockdown for just about any Northamerican critter although I have yet to try it on Moose or Elk (They won't let me in their club bars with it). I don't hunt Bear of course (hey, it's my totem) but it's great for scrambling around arroyos after Javelina and I would be confident in it if a Mountain Lion became annoyed with me. I have a big wide camo flap holster that straps on my chest, leaving my hands free and it doesn't snag on briars and brambles. I used to hunt deer with it from a canoe in Eastern NC swamps where a long gun would interfere with paddling and heavy brush.

For the intimidation factor, I have an AP9 in 9mm Lugar designed precisely for that effect. These are made by A.A. Arms in Mint Hill, N.C. It's a lot like a Tech9 but safer and not as easily "modified" to 1/2 ( . ) full auto, a very dangerous thing to do, not to mention illegal. It has a slotted barrel shroud and a variety of clips (up to 30 rnds) that mount forward of the trigger. It make a very chic fashion accessory for answering the door late at night. Wish I could take it with me when camping in Baja.

For CCW- a 5 shot .38 hammerless snubnose. Not so many rounds as an auto, but it never jams and doesn't snag on clothing.

A few years ago I was driving a marvelous woman (and board member of the NRA) to a hunting camp in Northeastern Mexico. Later that evening, after a few margaritas, we got on the subject of concealable defense handguns and she said, "No question. Forty caliber. That's what I carry."

I asked how she arrived at that conclusion and she started talking about the usual ballistics tests, wound channels, and the like. I said, "Well, that's all nice, but I've never given much faith in results of shooting gelatin blocks. That seems like carnival tricks to me. People aren’t made of gelatin" This is where I really started to like this woman. She said, “Oh, I didn’t use gelatin blocks—I used sides of beef for my tests!!!!” Hahaha! It’s like Rocky carrying a custom-made bird gun with pink stocks.

Anyway, she convinced me and I bought a Sig 229 that has turned out to be one of the finest guns I’ve ever owned. Another nice feature is that with nothing more than a barrel change (no spring, magazine, or anything else, just the barrel) it can be converted to 357 Sig, which is the ammo of choice for the Secret Service and Air Marshals. Which bring us all back around to the 9mm Super, which is pretty much the same as a 357 Sig, with a straight case and fewer rounds in the magazine.

Why carry a .38 Super

It's really simple, even to the average mex, The new gun laws actually went into effect in 1972. It's pretty stupid but it goes like this. 9mm and 45 cal were declared for Police and Military and designated as a High Power Weapon.

And although .38 Super, .357 are actually 9mm they don't actually say so and as such were designated as a Low Power Weapon.

Doesn't say much for mex logic but the reality is the difference can mean as much as 4 more years in the joint for having a High Power model as opposed to a Low Power model.

To the criminal it's a no brainer, carry a more powerful .38 Super and if you get caught you do less time.

I think that $1000 price may have been the special of the day. With variables being what variables can be in Mexico, it could be a lot worse. If one is caught in such a position, early disolution is the answer. Pay as soon as possible because the longer one sits in jail, the more people are involved. Serious jail time could be in store for a foreigner caught with a firearm. That's why I suggest that everyone learn Karate.:lol::lol:

As far as Guns in Baja Sur, I list my experiences only while living and traveling in Baja for 38 years.

During that time I was always told that there was limit of .18 Cal for Citzens,
I regularly took my Savage 22 Mag?20 Ga. shotgun to San Nicholas in my Airplane- Was never searched nor had any problems.

Residents of San Nicholas were given a bad time by the Feds onseveralo occasions as they all had 22 Rifles/30/30".

I had a 38 Relvolver taken from me out of a Motohome. Was told I could pick it up in La Paz, which I did after getting a Permit. I was told the only reason that I was allowed to Carry, was because I had been a Police Officer in the States,

I WILL STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT IF YOU CARRY, KEEP IT WELLOUT OF SITE,

Take a Well trained Black Lab.
