Thanks for the heads up everyone on this thread. We will keep it at 60 km to avoid any radar love. Here's hoping we have no problemas. We will keep our eyes open and if we don't make it back then........?

they only caught 2 of them and 2 of their buddies are still at large but hopefully this will stop the problem in that area for the meantime anyway.

Just another thought about the police catching two of the perps---we hope the correct ones.
Things happen everywhere---I know that is REALLY profound, be sure to write it down. 
But what is important to me is that the problem was addressed and from the reports of extra police, police stops, etc., it seems like they were
aggressive in their response---a good thing.
It is a good and positive message.
Just my thoughts

Dennis - I gotta say that I agree with you! These guys would have tried to jack the wrong car and would have been in for quite a surprize! Would love
to be the one to show them the business end of a .45!!! You never know - I've heard of plenty of people that still take guns down south....Not the

Just for reassurance, there were many times I wished that I had my 9mm with me in Mexico. But after hearing the story of what happened to an
acquaintance of mine when he got caught with his gun, I never got up the nerve to take mine down. After reading posts on alternative legal protection
devices a flare gun sounded like the way to go. Before running out and buying one a friend and I bought some flares for his Defender shotgun with an
18" barrel. The results were very disappointing, and that was with a barrel 4 times longer then a flare gun.
We shot at a piece of 1/4" plywood about 10 feet away. The flare did not go through it, it just bounced off, no burn mark, but it did put a round dent
the size of the 12 gauge shell in the plywood. The dent was only about 3/32" deep. I could have done more damage by throwing a stone at the plywood.
The conclusion, forget the flare gun. Anyone got any better ideas?

It appears that they target vehicles that "blend in" to the Tijuana scenery for a quick sale. This M.O. makes perfect sense to me and answers a lot of
my questions.
Kind of makes you want to drive a big lifted Gringo 4x4 for a different reason...

Im sure you have also heard the
I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.
I was raised by a cop who also was a champion target shooter for 50 plus years.

I took mine out squirrel hunting a couple of times with it loaded with snake shot. In that critical 7 to 25 feet area, this gun and load does
wonders.
Once you get tuned in to the thought of "stop the threat" instead of the 44 magnum mentality, this could do quite well in a number of "situations"
Also its a 22 and most likey would cause less of serious charge than being caught with the traditional prohibited military caliburs.

I carried one of these for years amongst others I had. Of course no fancy folding holster grip back then. You can palm it without anyone knowing you
have it. This at close range is a beauty! I would not recommend taking it to Mexico though!

Maybe I haven't read all the posts for this thread. I don't recall seeing anything about how to avoid running into an ambush.
I can have binoculars in my passenger seat to look ahead if I have enough time. Also, my flare gun in hand pulling up to something that looks
questionable could work.
Brought this question up to a MX/Ameri friend recently and he said slow down with ''intent'' to shoot through the roadblock, if necessary.
Can't say that getting killed over my car and possessions is a good thing but I live with a ''won't be taken alive'' mentality.
Anyone else?

So far convoys seem to be the only solution. I will probably wait at the PEMEX in El Rosario for a couple other cars to hook with when I pass through
this area. Safety in numbers. Oh and don't stop.
