Ditto, Don Jorge! Another great time for Tecate is after surfing--the lime, salt and ocean water all work together and do their magic.
That friend of yours wouldn't be at a certain nursery would it...?

Hard liquor, beer and wine, cigarettes…they all smell bad and taste terribly! That’s the truth. The draw is the psychological effect. We like the
psychological effect so much, we fooled ourselves into believing that those things taste and
smell good.
Chemically, limes are acidic and tart in flavor, ethanol alcohol in liquor and beer and wine is chemically a “base” which is bitter in flavor. Adding
lime juice to beer helps to chemically “neutralize” and diminish the “basicity” of the alcohol in a drink. Botta bing, botta boom!
I am glad to learn of all the other things that lime does for a drink.
In taste test after blind taste test, premium beers don’t do well in those honest tests.
I have been fishing Loreto since 1984. In those days, Corona was the “junk” beer and Heineken was expensive. When you signed up for a panga, they
would ask you how many beers you wanted with your box lunch. If you didn’t specify a brand, you got Corona because it was the cheapest beer and
therefore good for the panga guy’s bottom line. After Americans drank a lot of cheap Corona while in baja (it’s always been my theory that avid beer
drinkers are just too cheap to pay for hard liquor), they started ordering it in the USA because they were now familiar with that brand and it would
remind them of the good times in Baja. Well, we Americans being profit oriented, the new demand was met with higher prices and before long, stupid
cheap corona beer became a premium brand and no longer cheap and Heineken has become cheaper. Corona tastes the same now as it did in 1984.
Also, the flavor of things we eat and drink has a lot to do with the chemistry of your mouth at any given point in time and the mood you are in. A
lot. That’s why the nonsense surrounding drinking expensive wines is so silly…you know, the color, the smell, the clarity, the region, etc., etc.,
etc.
Let’s drop the self-delusion. Drink wine like the Italians and drink the wine, not the label like the French and the Americans do. If you pay more
than $15 a bottle, you are paying too much for wine. If you drink mixed drinks, don’t use premium brands of liquor, use the lower costing stuff. Get
real, drop the ego, and save money…you’ll be able to afford more booze that way.

If they give me a lime with a beer, good, if not, it's still good.

Not me. I sincerely enjoy the taste of some beers....not all. As far as the hard liquor is concerned, I'd rather spend an afternoon on the beach in
Baja with a handful of ice cold beer than a glass of vodka.

When my dad's family came over on the boat from Germany via England in the last century, a few of the family members headed south across the border to
Mexico. As brewmeisters they had been recruited to help start new breweries being built down in Chihuahua and Jalisco, I believe. The family lost
contact with them in the 1930's but I am trying to fill in that part of the family tree with some limited success. My dad was a chemist and an amateur
brewer himself. He hated folks putting limes in their beers and insisted it killed the taste that had been carefully brewed. His idea was that if you
needed a lime to help the taste you needed to look for a different beer.
Flies? My old man would have told you to just keep a fly swatter handy...

NO... who wants a dead fly in their beer. I only use the lime to wet the top of the beer bottle - to repel flies and any disease they may pass on.
Flies love beer! (so they can't be all that bad...)
I was in a fly infested place, drinking my Pacifico and my buddy challenged me on the "fly repelling theory" of a lime. Step 1: I put a fresh cut
lime on top of the napkin holder and the flies never touched it. They were landing on the mouth of our beer bottles, two or three at a time. Step 2:
I put the lime juice on top of the beer bottle and they would not set down on them after that. He was amazed... So, it works.
My thinking is... if the beer tastes bad, put the lime IN the beer, otherwise just juice the mouth of the beer with the lime.

I hear you Bob, but when my dad popped a cap off the beer he rarely put it down before finishing it. Beer was something you drink, not "savor" as he
would say...

Now a good martini is a different story! But we'll save that for a different thread...

I do enjoy a small wedge of lime in my Pacificos from time to time. Especially from my own Mexican Lime Tree... This tree is very happy!
Edit for: Hard to see the fruit, beleive me, it's loaded!

Not to mention that in recent years, Mexican beer has suffered a double-whammy. Major international corporations like AB, have assumed control of
major Mexican brewers. And, they have lowered the alcohol content of all the beers. (and the booze, too.)

I never believe anything from a stranger.
With that it mind, I will be in Loreto next Sunday and the first thing I will do is experiment with what you said. It might take 5 or 6 beers to make
a clear evaluation. Naturally, this will be done for scientific purposes. I shall report with my findings as I want to be a giver to this forum.

For Bob H:
Yes, I do have too much time on my hands. No, I'm not intelligent, just average, but I pay attention to detail. I have done alot of different things
professionally, but all I want to do now is fish for Dorado and Cabrilla, barbecue and eat, and not have to be any place for an appontment, not owe
anybody any money, and just talk only to nice people.

I see a lot of opinions all over the board here on beers, I personally think it is a matter of choice, I like a lot of different kinds of beers, and I
personally like Corona as well as pacifico etc. etc. I really don't think it is fair to say that beer sucks and that one sucks, It is what you like,
talk about marketing ploy, look at BUDWEISER, why is this beer sooooooo popular? There is nothing that can compare to MICRO BREWS, can you imagine if
someone could get something like that going down here in Mexico, I'm thinking seriously about it? brewing my own beer on the site, do you think I
may have some takers.
