baja sailing?
Is there no "sailing" category on this board? I'm not sure where to post a question like this. I cannot believe there isn't a forum section for this,
since there is for just about every other activity you can think of.

I love anything that gets me on the water...
..and sailing in Baja is definitely one of them.
Egads, good question, Watson. I never noticed that there was no special category for 'sailing'...I just posted sailing threads in photos or general
like usual. It's certainly popular and common knowledge among Baja travelers. A high percentage of Baja people I've met over the last 35 years are
sailors. So, yup, fair question.
It's a very popular theme where I live in Conception Bay. Living in front of one of the best anchorages around, I am surrounded by sailboats. I
have and do sail. From Hobies to better-made Prindles to sloops to trimarans to pilothouses and more. The Cortez is made to order for them. I may
go tomorrow.

Ey Watson...
I can not speak for this forum regarding saling.
However...
I have sailed a Hobie 16 all over the Sea Of Cortez, plus raced the Hobie in San Felipe, Puerto Penasco, and Ensenada.
I quit sailing after a serious motorcycle accident, but now I own a Hobie kayak that also has a sail.
Perhaps you need a question answered?
There are other forums that are dedicated to sailing in Baja, and no one has ever brought up the subject here on Nomads.

Actually, there are several Cortez area forums for sailors..and it has been brought up here a couple times in the past.
bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/cortez
www.latitudemexico.com/forum
www.seacortez.com
www.lonelyplanet.com
www.sailnet.com/forums/
hubpages.com/tag/sailing+in+the+sea+of+cortez
forums.cruisingworld.com
and a bunch more, but you get the idea.
It would be nice to have another one right here, too...so ask away.

No it's not a Hobie Mirage (which is a 20' catamaran). My kayak (my wife has one also, a yellow one) is a Hobie Adventure Island, which one can pedal,
paddle, or sail. Or as mine is set up, for fishing also.
My best fishing set-up ideas came from Kayak Angler magazine and the Hobie kayak forum.
Oxxo...that's a very nice motorsailer!

Yep, Willard 40PH, parked right next to your boat, AFTER MIDNIGHT.

7.5 knots and no wake.
I want to get one of the Hobie tandem peddle kayaks and throw it up top.

Oxxo...
Roam the craigs lists or put an ad for what you want. That is where I both yaks. 2 grand apiece and one year old with all the upgrades.
As far as putting one on top of the boat...would be cool, but a little heavy. Need at least two strong men to pick up, about 60+ lbs from the water.

Good suggestion, thanks.

Not a problem. I have an electric winch on the boom rated at 2000 lbs. I'd just rig up a bridle and haul it up out of the water.

A few years back we chartered a cat out of Moorings in La Paz for a week.
I would love to do something like that again. It was one of the most memorable sailing adventures of my life.
There is a trip report on that hidden in the bowels of the Nomads...yuck!

Pompano,
One item on my wish list for Baja.
Sailing in one of your neighbors sailboats in a 15 knot breeze on Conception Bay! Now that would be a perfect moment.
Must be some way to bribe him into letting me rent one!?! Old Tequila, Single Malt, chica's or?

No problema Ken, I sold my sloops, but if I am here you can sail either a Hobie or Prindle 16'... or we can enlist a Drascom for that slower, but
more cozy sail. No amigos with larger trimarans here now, but should be by next winter. If nieghbor Joe is here, he' always ready to take out his
sloop.
Some of the most fun on a sailboat I ever had was during our local regattas a few years back. Man, did we sail..hangin in the harness..flying one
hull.....downwind wing on wing...doing what we could to find the best WIND....all fun!
I was out on my Prindle 16 cat one day and saw a big turtle way ahead of me. I laid down face forward on the mat and steered wing on wing with my
feet on the rudder arm, my head hanging over the front of the mat. I came up behind that turtle so quietly that I was directly over his head when the
cat's shadow went over him....about a foot away....He looked up, saw me, and splash/showered me as he went down. A fine day!

Took a chance, went into the bowels and found that thread but all the photos were missing which made it BORING!
However, I did find this photo
There are two young people traveling around Baja in two Cal 25's. Last summer they careened their boats in Juancalito so they could paint the
bottoms.
Talk about sailing Baja...they are doing it!
