Alas, since the major international brewers took control of the process, just about any of the Mexican beers mentioned is no where close to what they once were. Salud!

I am a Pacifico man when it comes to Mexican beer, but I DO like the big bottles of Corona Familiar... anyone have any comments on that beer? And, why is it so different than the regular Corona, which I do not like (but will do in a pinch).

If beer is acidic adding the lime would make it more acidic. Acids have a sour taste, so that goes along with the beer tasting sour. Tomatoes are also fairly acidic so again, no neutralization happens when you ad the clamato.

As Dennis says adding a base, like baking soda, would help to neutralize the acidicity of the beer. Most bases are soaps and detergents, so wouldn't be too good to add those to the beer!

I guess we just like acididic tastes; soda, coffee, citrus fruits, all acids.

Oh yea, back to the beer...I bought a case of Bud Lite w/ Lime already in it last night, not bad for 100 calories! Saludos, H.

Hi Heather!

Somebody is mixed up about beer ph... Motoged has it right, however.

From Motoged in this thread, above: "Also, beer rates as an alkaline substance...Google says so...."

The lime is acidic and counters/ balances a beer's bitter or alkaline taste...

Maybe not. I think beer is more acidic than lime although one wouldn't think so.

Again, Google "beer.....acid or alkaline" and all sorts of tables will be offered for comparison.

If that reference was to me, David...I have an expensive PH meter and I'm only going by what it tells me. That beer is highly acidic is shown in the many tables available by going to Google and.....you know the rest.

Maybe it's the clear bottle, Bob. Remember Miller Hi Life? I think it had the same negative reaction from the public.

I got the tour the Pacifo Brewery in Mazatlan a couple years ago. I had my own private tour. They take you right out on the floor which was awesome. I was able to see the whole bottling process from recycling the cardboard case containers to the finished product. What was amazing to me was this room they had filled with thousands of bottles and these tiny little monkeys. The monkeys are about the size of a quarter and they are from Costa Rica. I guess there job is to crawl into the bottles and push the limes back out. I almost didn't believe it at first. It was pretty cool!

They used to hire Guatamalans to do that but, they formed a union and were tossed out.
Is the beer garden still in operation at the brewery? What a trip that was in the sixties.

No...It's so long ago I'm not sure the camera had been invented. If it was still there, you would know it. It was like a half square mile of beer drinkers, countless Mariachi bands and a great time. Pacifico was next to free and they just kept it coming. In those days, you could buy a bottle of beer in a bar for one Peso...8 cents. <<sigh>>

I'll just open a cool one and toast good times. Don't need a PH meter to enjoy a good brew.:D

Well I am not that picky so I am not a good person for that. I know that not a single one was thrown out. I liked them. I do like drinking out of a bottle though. Something I have always enjoyed ever since I was born.

Thanks Dennis... I guess the reason beer tastes good is not logical?!!:light:
