Truck window tint
Hey Baja friends, I've bought a new used truck and I'm thinking of tinting. I've never had any trouble and I dont want that to change.
For BCN and BCS, what are the rules and enforcement practices. I have a double cab truck. Can you tint behind the driver? Thanks

Tint is not a favorite practice right now, given the narco wars. You are inviting trouble if you do much more than the mildest UVA tint. if you go for
the "no one can see me" job, you are really inviting trouble. And, at this point, I cannot blame the Baja cops.

Curt63, I was pull over last friday, I posted my story in another thread, but here it's so you can see it, Im keeping my truck tinted, it protects the
inside and it looks cool, i don't think a narco is going to be advertising is vehicle with Baja plates. IMHO.
Instated of onpeing a new thread I will contribute on this one I hope you don't mind Lou.I haven't been stop in Baja in a long time, this past friday
i went to TJ to visit my wifes family and to buy some groceries, well on the way back to the sates around 11:00PM ,right in front of CENTRO CULTURAL,
a police truck come from a side rd, I was half way on the ramp to get to the border when he turn on is flashers, IM THINKING TO MY SELF WHAT DID I DO
WRONG, I stop 2 police officers come out the truck one on my side the other on the passanger side,pointing is flash light at my truck, "HE TELLS ME,
DO YOU KNOW WHY I STOP YOU, I ANSWER NO, HE SAYS BECAUSE OF YOUR TINTED WINDOWS THAT IS ILLEGAL IN MEXICO", I said officer i don't come to often to
mexico thats why I haven't removed the tint.H e ask for my documents and from where I was coming and where I was going, You see with this type of
vehicle that you have and the tinted windows is a bad combination you haven't seen all the bad things in the news lately he says.Just when I was about
to give him my papers, he very polite toll me Ok sir you can continue with your trip and he left, for one minute I was thinking of how much the
MORDIDA was going to be, but this time I had a good cop on my side...

even in our little village, the police have been asked to enforce the no tint rule so you get a fine if you still have them.

Don't get it tinted, you will be asking for it. And as for Baja Cat's big red, it is not even legal in California. http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html

Tinting
They'd love that truck in Palm Springs.
Back in the day when I was working for GTE, the P.S. cops would troll the company parking lots just before quitting time and, if they found a likely
strike, they'd park outside and wait. That and Out-of-State licenses were their favorite pickings. There were so many angry employees that the
Division Manager called the PD and was basically told TS so the company issued a warning memo.
Nowadays, with even better revenue to be had, I'm sure their enforcement is even higher.
Illegal in the U.S. Likely to get attention from the Mex Cops. Why bother ?

I was ticketed in california about 8 months for tinted windows on a truck I bought used and drove 3 years without even knowing it was tinted. I think
it's just a matter of time before your number comes up. Paid $70 to have it removed. Our local auto shop wanted $350.

Why not roll down your tinted windows (driver and front passenger) when in an enforced area?
Of course tinting those two windows is illegal in California (beyond the factory tinting), so I don't understand how it's done so easily here...

We roll all windows down,even the back window on my Tundra, going thru TJ
that is. 6 trips to BOLA in 2008. Never any problems. Oh, we roll windows down at the 2 federal inspections also.

I have factory tint on all side windows plus the rear slider and they are pretty dark (not as dark as BajaCat's, Hola Jose...) so when we enter the
border I just roll the windows down halfway so they see just the heads of myself and the passengers.
Not a problem, yet...

FERNA is right, my truck tint is not even legal in CA, but I
had the windows tinted 3 months after I bought the truck brand new. so far the haven't stop me in CA, but Im not dumb, i lower the windows when I
see the police getting close to me. And also as Chucks says I lower all the windoes when I go across the border, and no problems so far..

Russ I have't done alot trips on this year (2009), so I don't have alot to share but
Im always check BN every other day...
And yes I when to TJ for tacos, just to be surround it by Baja Finest Ak's 47 and all. All because my tinted windows the close the street where they
pull me over, offer to tow my car untill I pay the fine $ 850 pesos plus towing, but then the whole thing when into Mordida Mode, the officer saids to
me " I SEE YOU HAVE YOUR FAMILY WITH YOU, I WILL HELP YOU OUT, I HAVE 4 PATROL CARS ON MY CREW, SO $10 DLLRS PER UNIT WILL DO". so to make the story
short $40 dollars later he let me go with a warning. ' KEEP YOUR TINTED TRUCK IN THE USA." it was a good day never the less..
I LOVE BAJA
