How much $$ do you budge for a "Typical" Baja vacation?
$500?
$1,000?
$50??
I'm curious on what most Nomads spend when they make a run to Baja.

Anywhere from $700 to $1000, depending, How often I used the hotels, I pretty much do self contain trips so it's not that expensive, on my trip from
San Diego to Cabo for two weeks i only expend $1,400, because i only used three motels, the rest was camping on the beach... For my quick trips,
(laguna Hanson, Gd-canyon,ect ect) about $300 to $450..

ok- I'll bite-
our first trip was a family vacation, (did not know about BajaNomads at the time.............unfortunately for us).
Private small casa in La Paz area at $500/week x 4 $2000
car rental- $32 a day for 28 days $ 900
RENTAL car rentaL insurance- (DID NOT COUNT ON THIS ONE) $26 a day $730
meals and etcetera- "inconsequential compared to the car insurance."
Baja experience..................PRICELESS.

I remember someone saying that they spend about $1000 whether they stay in hotels or camp for free. I probably spend a little bit less, but it seems
to be the same no matter the style of lodging and transportation.

It may depend on how many cops you gotta pay off. But Bajacat is right. It depends on how many nights in a hotel or more exact the price of the hotel.
Next is the amount of traveling you'll do to figure gas cost. Then meals, eat in or make your own.

Wow... the rich and famous on vacation!
Gasoline is the biggest expense, food next, at least when we go camping in Baja... Last weekend cost less than $200 for the four of us.... We live
about 300 miles from Shell Island, which is closer than many of you to your favorite Baja destination.

Don't forget about the fishing. Paying for the boat, guide, and tip is the biggest expense on our trips. 5 or 6 days fishing on a 2 week trip adds
alot, but thats why we go.

Disallowing any unforeseen expenses. Our own boat, no accomidations, two people, diesel both ways, a few restaurant meals, fishing licenses and boat
permit, propane, water...about $500. a week for a month or six weeks. We don't buy alcohol or other drugs.

Wow, if I had some of those numbers I would run away from home. The past 8 years in my VW van I have been living on $300/mo. Just went to $400 for
the upcoming trip. And, I don't miss a meal, beer,or party. I have learn to "hole up". Takes a lot of will power.

Obviously, it's all over the scale. Depends on personal choices, comfort needs and taste. Four of us could spend two weeks hitting the surf spots and
spend very little. It helps to stop in a place like Walmart in Ensenada for essentials (liquor). On the other hand, we've made trips seeking out
actual shelter, and they've run the gamut as well. In many of the towns, there are motels/ hotels where prices of some are double that of others.
Ditto on food. In more established areas, there are sitdown restaurants that will cost just about the same as in the States. on the other end of the
spectrum, there are taco stands and the like.
An observation I can make from personal experience is that i do tend to spend considerably more these days than I did years ago. That's mostly because
of the availability of ATMs and merchants who take credit cards today. Mexico is relatively new to the personal banking biz as well as using credit
cards. Used to have to take along a wad of cash, hoping I had enough to make the trip. Exchange dollars for pesos. Seems that with the exception of
Pemex, one can almost go from the border to land's end and hardly need cash. Can't recall now if El Rosario has an ATM. But beyond there, I think San
Ignacio is the only town of notable size that doesn't have an ATM. Gotta say I was shocked when I saw a bank and ATM in Vizcaino. Bet it made the
folks out in Asuncion happy.

For a motorcycle trip with no support I figure $100 per day per person. Staying in hotels, some nice, some have a roof. Drinking in Bars and eating
street food. Maybe 8 gallons a day of gas, some out of jugs.
Chase Trucks? ??
We don\'t need no stinking chase trucks!

No bank or ATM in El Rosario... San Quintin (Lazaro Card##as) is the furthest south in Baja Norte.
Then Guerrero Negro and Santa Rosalia would be the next two towns with a bank, heading south.
