Seven or so years back, I was going north through Tecate and decided to find a motel and spend the night. There's an area on Juarez [I think] west of the border gate that has a few motels. I stopped in one of them, very plain...no pool or other obvious amenities, and checked the price. I think it was 80 bucks for a single. Way too much then. I crossed and spent the night in Chula Vista at the Vagabond for 50. Used the pool as well.

Juarez is the main drag leading to the free road to Otay. That's all the help I can give you.

Going South out of town towards Ensenada after the top of the hill, across and down the road a bit from the Pemex is a nice hotel (would be on the right just as you're getting into town if you were headed North). Don't remember the name but they have a resturant and gated entry (good security) and price was reasonable.......dt

The cartel doesn't attend to detail as they should.

Check them out on www.tecatebajacalifornia.com.mx .They aren't the cheapest hotel, but it's nice and they have good security.

Comes to mind that Tecate is a sweet little town. They benefit from the fact that there's not big population base just across the border. Spending a weekend just hanging around the town zocalo is really cool.
