Retirement plans on "hold" ?
How has this "adjustment" of the economy and especially the current home values effected your retirement or retirement plans?
Excuse me if this has already been discussed.

We're already here! YEAH! Sold our house in Sacramento for top $ about 2 minutes before the bottom fell out of the market. Life is good in Baja.

We are still coming down to Baja in about four years, but it looks like we will be more dependent on our Social Security incomes. Although, in four
years, we should come out about $400,000 ahead on the house, and a third of that will go toward paying off the RV.
Life is not sweet right now but I'm optimistic.

ditto. Mine was in Mission Beach San Diego. We lived in both homes for a while- but taking care of a 120 gallon marine tank is hard to do from a
distance and we had homeless people move into the front yard nightly and use the koi pond fountain to wash up. So we sold too-with some recent regrets
however- but not because of the sales price. Be careful what you wish for...
woooosh-note: An artist friend of mine painted a ocean-themed tryptich as a housewarming gift for our last house in Mission Beach. When he visited
the house in baja- he laughed and said the painting only needed horses and beach trash added to be current.

Put a picture of "it" on the refer...........that's REFRIGERATOR....for all you funkys out there

Well, my retirement plans changed due to some health issues needing to be fixed first and I now do not think I will take my 5th wheel down. It is 37
feet long with 3 slides and finding a trailer park to set it up will be a little difficult. I also do not want to worry about it down in Baja if
things go further down the tubes. I will just rent or lease and we should be down there in about 10 months unless more issues happen. I have friends
that go down to Baja with me, however now they refuse to go down with me. They are too worried and their wives are scared, so hopefully as with all
things maybe time will change that. I will not be traveling as much due to some stock market failures which probably everybody has also suffered.
Maybe time will fix that also, LOL!! later------bajafun777

My plan(started 5 years ago) was to retire in Los Barriles... now with my investments worth next to nothing and prices escalating in BCS... I am
considering selling my Palapa and moving over to the mainland because of the availability of low-cost housing and lower food costs... I am nervous
that my savings and social security would make it too difficult to live in BCS.... I have made multiple trips to the central part of MX and am
encouraged with what I found... I should be able to live in a small pueblo within a short bus ride to the sea for my fishing fix... and experience a
"real mexican retirement"... 16 months from finally pulling the plug and really have no choice... either keep working or take a chance that I can make
it in MX... the other change to my plan is that I will be working for 3-4 months each summer in the national parks to make up a little cash cushion...
didn't plan on having to do that when I started out...
I am the first to admit that I have made some un-wise choices and to some extent I am responsible for my own demise... but both my ex-wives are
content...

Wasn't planning to make the move for about another two years. Now, the home is underwater, in mortgage parlance, wondering whether it's worth waiting
it out to see if it rebound, or just leaving it behind and hiking South.

Put the house on the market last year here in DC with plans to retire by end of 2008 and the market went south- my house is in a niche that while
others are selling in my area it's a move up for most folks and mortgages dried up for jumbo loans- so postponed until 8/10 or as soon as the house
sells. Did some remodeling to make it more attractive and some realtors are calling to show again- even though it's not on the market. Investments
went south but have recovered to some extent so started on some minor building in La Paz, putting up the wall and fencing, car gates and ped gate so
the property is protected. got water hook and sewer hook up and now will sit until the housing market sends me a buyer- Am blessed to have a good job
and income while we wait this out-- Norm

Well we are on hold. One kid is moving back home after we have paid for her mortgage for 1 1/2 years. She got layed off in Dec 07. In a field that is
not hiring. Own our lot. Have wonderful house plans all done, but with the economy and the stock market we are not in a position to do the house. We
have found a 5th wheel and we plan to put it on our lot. Who cares about a house anyway. We are getting older by the minute.
