A question for people retired and living in Baja
I am curious... how do you retired people live? Please share your situation with me, I am near retirement , have a home in baja and want to explore
all living options. Do you own your home in the states? Rent in the states? How long do you stay in Baja VS US? oh please share........

Our situation is probably different than most. We go back and forth about every 6 weeks. We live in two different worlds, and enjoy both of them.
So, we have kept our home in the US, but we also have a small unit on our property with a great tenant who takes care of things while we are in Baja.
We are in the process of selling another property in the US, but we will not sell our home.
And on the other end, we have some friends there who do a GREAT job watching over our place in Bahia Asuncion. Even with all of the changes there, we
hope to keep that home for a long time.
It is different for everyone--also, we always enjoy the drive back and forth----great desert.

You want to retire in Baja, think about just renting. In Mexico buyer beware, you may think you own it and then find out you were wrong.

Well, you claim Los Barriles as your Baja base and you've been around here longer than I have, so you must understand the formula for living here has
endless nuances. A million people doing a million different things a million different ways.
Is there anything specific you would like to inquire about?

We have a large home in the states, too big for two people, we want to downsize into something smaller and share our time in both places, we have
thought about "going green" and buying an ideabox and set it on a small peice of property, just need to find the right peice of prop.... or do
something else, just trying to get all the different ideas down......

Full time permanent resident; I've lived here since 1999. I'm in a newly constructed approx 1,500 sq ft casa of my own design. View property on the
hills of Centenario overlooking the bay & the lights of La Paz at night, 8 minutes to the airport, 20-25 minutes to town (14 if it's an
emergency! ). Like the last post....OOPS! The post that looks like it just
disappeared, I'm in a slightly more gringo-conveniences casa....screens on all windows & sliders, solid roof, satellite TV, no land-lines here
yet, cistern, satellite internet, pool & alas, NO pizza delivery in my area!
I haven't even been NOB even for a visit for 4 years. Wouldn't want to
& couldn't afford to maintain two residences in two countries. Can't even conceive of ever going back to live NOB for love nor money! I've found
my niche & love it!
My first 8 years were on 2 different waterfront properties....IMO, beach living here is not all it's cracked up to be....too much hassle, noise, trash
left behind every week-end, thus my decision to buy quiet view property overlooking the bay.

Why keep the place stateside? Hotels are much cheaper than property tax and the cost of keeping and maintaining a home! Our PMB works fine as an
address in Imperial Beach.
Not living in the US, you give up quite a bit...which is why we chose the Ensenada area. We are within a 3 hour drive of San Diego; have fine dining
at our beck and call right here in Ensenada, darn good medical care, and if you can't get it here, someone is headed to San Diego tomorrow and can get
it for you (items, not medical care!). We get our mail picked up in Imperial Beach once a week (a service we pay a small fee for....and it's
delivered to our house, packages and all)...so if we can't get it here and no one can get it for us, we order over the internet and get it the next
week.
The weather is close to perfect year round. The other Gringos in the area all feel (for the most part) the same way so you meet lots of folks with
stuff in common.
We love living here in Baja and can't imagine "going back" to where people drive by and wave at you when you're in your yard, pull into the driveway
next door, hit the remote and open that door, drive in....and you never see them again or know their names.
Friends don't let friends drink white zinfandel.
