Another good choice. Nicaragua isn't a good place to take a motor home though. Driving there is a bit interesting :o and beach access is somewhat difficult. There are very few places where you could get a motor home to the beach and hang.

The cost of living in Nicaragua is much less than Mexico though and you could rent a simple house away from the beach for next to nothing. (Don't expect to rent anything with AC if you want to live cheaply as power costs are very expensive!)

Try Bahia Gigante, San Juan del Sur, Popoyo, Astillero. Google each of these and check it out. I'm sure you could find a inexpensive place to stay to test the area. Internet access is available in some of the most remote places there.

Check the link below in my signature line to get an idea of what the area is like. Go to the "video" link at the bottom of the page.

Bigwoo, that place looks very nice, but seems a bit too much for me. I think people may have the wrong impression of me. Im not a surfer guy, nor someone looking to really move to the hustle and bustle of south america.

Im tired of the constant garbage from people, living and working to pay rent and bills, and having to deal with being in such a populated, dirty, and overbuilt area. By the end of the year I will be debt free, and probably single, and Bajahound, DEFINETLY not looking for a wife.

I want to park my RV in a secluded area and fish, swim, surf, lounge and live off what I can make online, and maybe what I can catch as well as my services in construction. I want to be able to go into the local village to eat, shop and mingle with the locals, and then go back to my nice little spot and live in what I consider luxury.

Maybe this is a pipe dream, but I am willing to work on it and see if it could come true. Again thanks so much for all your help. This forum really is awesome

Remember Big John? He was looking for a traveling companion. I wonder if he ever found one?

When I read this, my mind immediatly went back to a book, "Mexico On Five Dollars A Day." It was a different world then but it's still the stuff of todays dreams....I guess.

Poker guy

I'm from Las Vegas. I was not much of a gambler when I lived there because locals like me found out early the more you play the more you pay. But that doesn't mean we aren't familiar with the odds, don't know the games.

I'll bet you what you think you'll earn playing cards on line over the next six months that you can't make it down here the way you plan it. I did it and I had solid $ money coming in every month for 10 years. I lived in the sand and grit, close to the bone -- in the heat, thru the hurricanes, the small town rustic life of Mexican in the raw. My guess is you wouldn't last 90 days the first summer no matter where in Baja California given all you've told us of your plans. You're not having pipe dreams, you're having hooka dreams and they are very different dreams. Rethink the thing vato.

sounds like a dream..... if i was you i'd go for it. if you can't make it in baja, you can't make it anywhere (reminds me of a song, for some obscure reason:light: ). you can always go back home if it doesn't work out.

the list:

p.s. anyone seen minnow?

Woody, stop it. You must have ESP N cause you're talking about minnows and you must have spied on me yesterday in the panga when I took ANOTHER boat ride around Palmas Bay dragging sweet, skinny, smelly half beaks all over hell without success.

Osprey, can I ask why you dont think I can make it? Is it the idea of me making money playing poker? the idea of living in an rv by the beach?

The idea for me posting on this site was to get all ideas and criticism but just telling me I can't do it isn't really fair. I am sure it wont be the easiest move, but I sense that it could be the most fulfilling.

And once again, Im not doing this tomorrow, Im trying to soak up every piece of information I can get.

Poker, ask Cypress where he lives now, how and where he lived in Baja California. Get back to me.

I have a right to be skeptical pal. How much is your bank? What about the days, weeks, months (minutes) you lose, not win? Read Grahams books, get back to us.

Poker Guy, this is a nice post. Sounds like you have a firm grip on reality, and you'll either be happy down here following your plan, or you won't like it so much, s you'll move on.

Either way, it'll be fine:dudette: Good luck to you!

Fiction writers are a dime a dozen. :DRead a book about living in Baja?:D How 'bout living in Baja and reading any book you want.:biggrin:You've taken the name of an outstanding bird, but while a real Osprey soars, you're just flapping your gums.:D

Ouch!

You gotta give this guy some credit though it's way too early to tell how much. Heck, I"ve had those dreams many times, they were dreams though because the reality only comes thru experience, like Ospey stated. You might be lucky or you may not. Poker like life in general is a gamble.
Perhaps he is right but only you can discover that. Nobody here(I hope) can tell you where you should, or what you should, do. Don't dismiss anyones words here because to each person comes a different destiny.
Listen to all but do what common sense dictates. That may take a few sacrifices that you may not even think about like the Gnu says.

You can go down to explore your dream and get some valuble knowledge. For all we know the heat and humidity might drive you batty. These are simple considerations and there are many.

Of course I have no idea how many eggs you gots but I,d hesitate to put them all in one basket till you're sure you can pull it off. Maybe the most you have to lose is little. If that's the case I say WTH, go do anythang yer allowance will permit.

Just don't call mom and dad when some bandito rips you off;D

Good luck and have fun!

DON\'T SQUINT! Give yer eyes a break!

Ill be saving up, taking trips, and digging deep in the knowledge of this forum as well as any one I meet along the way.

I do believe the baja area is where I will be happy, but only time will tell.

Thanks again everyone, and I hope one day I will be able to help out the new guy who wants to move there.

Hey Pokey,

Just do it. Don't over plan this.
You need a pickup truck and a AAA map.
For 1500 month you can find cheap motels to stay in. Almost anything you need you can find along the way somewhere. Live like a mexican. It's better and funner.
I packed all kinds of stuff I never used or needed.
I brought camping gear just in case. I only ever needed it once. And that's because I meet a beautiful mexican girl who wanted to flock on the beach.
So when we going?
