Which fruits and veggies will not be allowed south of GN?
What should I pack and what should i leave home? I searched on fruits but got pages and pages of non related items. Specifically I am wondering
about :
oranges?
apples?
plums?
lettuce?
carrots?
onions?
cucumbers?
celery?
avacados?

Agree. I hide all my produce and meat before GN and retrieve it after I'm through. What do you think they do with it? Seriously.

or just pull up to the guy and hand him a bag with 4-5 oranges in it. he'll think you know the drill and let you through, hopefully. it's worked for
us twice...

Question
I have a question. Driving thru next week. We stop in Ensenada and
buy meat and other food stuff thinking Mexican labels. Does that
make a difference? Mexican "labeled" meat, peppers, onions? Or
nothing from the north. Norte or USA.
Usually blow right on thru but have had them check the cooler. when
they were grabbing the meat the trick was cheap meat cuts to take
with the prime ribs in the suit case.

Yep, there are other roads that cross into Baja Sur besides Hwy. 1... Just don't have infested produce... as you wouldn't if it is for your own
consumption!

buy your produce after you arrive. they protect their ag crops for a reason, just like we protect ours. it's not really appropriate for us to be
using the internet to encourage one another to smuggle and import pests to southern baja. would you feel bad if your so cal pests hitched a ride and
ruined south baja ag economy?
i am reminded of the gringos who are up in arms because mexicans smuggle into the USA,... i bet many of same gringos that express shock at people
violating immigration laws consider themselves above mexican laws and smuggle produce.

The culprits are fruit and melon flies, maybe other insects. Buy your fruits and vegetables in BCS.

The first time I drove down to Asuncion I wasn't aware of the restrictions on fruits/veggies. When I was stopped and questioned at GN, I answered
truthfully that I had two oranges and three apples. I passed over the two pieces of fruit that I had with me in the front seat and got out of the
truck to get the rest from the back. I rummaged around for quite a while looking for the fruit with no luck. After a bit, the two inspectors looked at
each other, told me to go on through, but to "eat it real fast" when I found the rest. I'm not sure if that was a good thing (for me) or a bad thing
(for pest control), but it was a pretty decent way to deal with the problem. And now I know not to bring fruits and veggies.

Must be really random at the State border. I've only ever been asked for $1 for the bug spray. Never any questions about what I was carrying. Don't
know if it's a time of day thing or what. But on just a slightly different topic, we just went through there Northbound the other day and kept intact
our years-long record of having never been asked for our FM-Ts.
