Crossing South & Road Conditions
Couple of questions. Does anyone know if they are starting to inspect vehicles going South at San Ysidro on Saturday? Also, I saw a couple of reports
on road construction South of Maneadero. Any estimate about how long it takes to get through that?
Was wondering because a bunch of people are coming to Erendira this weekend for the annual Los Monos v. Erendira baseball tournament. The game is
12:00 p.m. on Saturday, and some players can't come down until that morning.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Esteban.

We came down Friday. Not too many stops and not for very long. Sat at the check point north of Santa Thomas behind a line of cars, then they just let
us all through. South of Santa Thomas two Federales were pulling cars over north and south. They were busy with another car, so we kept going. South
of Maneadero is still a mess, very slow, dirty and dusty. Probably took 20-30 minutes to get through. We didn't stop at all at check point north of El
Rosario. Hotels were all sold out on Friday night. Lots of traffic on the road everywhere. No stops in the desert. Heading further south tomorrow to
Scorpion Bay.

When you say 'they' are you asking about U.S. or Mexican officials? Since you also said San Ysidro and not Tijuana, I will guess U.S.: Saturday the
18th late morning when we crossed, NO.
Now, if you meant Mexican officials in Tijuana... YES, random pulling out vehicles crossing south to get inspected, is what we saw... and all cars
parking in Secondary to get tourist cards had to get inspected then push the button for a possible double inspection!
Mexicali also on July 4th weekend was inspecting cars at random.

Thanks for the info everyone. Dennis, hope to meet you at the tournament (Well it is only one game, but it is for a good cause). Fiesta after is at
our place South of town this year. I believe the suckling pig is being fattened up for the Carnitas as we speak.
DK. Thanks for the responses. I had heard (perhaps wrongly) the new inspection by the Mexican officials trying to interdict weapons/stolen vehicles,
etc. flowing South was set to start Saturday. I know, as does everyone who crosses there about the random inspections. Saw your trip report post with
picture, as well as someone else's post ,on the construction South of Maneadero. Just trying to get info. for friends heading South, some who are
worried about making the game in time, about time of delays (Thanks Bajachris for that info).
DK, sorry if my post was too vague, but I thought I had said that I was asking about inspections "crossing South," and "going South at San Ysidro,"
which is where you are before you cross?

Passed through road work both ways last week......slow going because just one lane each way and you will be going at the speed of the SLOWEST vehicle
in the line....10-15 minute delay I guess

The construction on the lanes seems to be completed but I don't think the computer system is up and running yet. The length of the lanes is longer
than before and they have installed a series of bumps at the end of each lane to slow down traffic even more. It seems to take about 15 seconds to
drive through now because of the bumps. This is going to cause major backups during peak traffic periods. I don't see the necessity for the bumps at
the end which will really slow down traffic going through. At that point you know if you are going to secondary.

They are ordinary topes but the way they have them set up seriously are bad for your car. Go slow through the San Yasidro entrance to Mexico. Its the
most ridiculous and unnecessary man made jolting of a car I have ever gone across

Sounds like you are planning to have just an awful time---must be one of those no choice trips.
Do have fun---do you really still have an accordian? I sold my many years ago when I realized Grandma would never think I played as well as Myron
Floren.

I agree. The bumps should be removed. I went a little too fast the second time through and it felt like my vehicle might roll over.

Diane, I have two: a button accordion (Bb), and a borrowed piano style. Been taking lessons from a German in Chula Vista so one day I might be able
to play like Flaco Jimenez (yeah, right). We practice, but our other accordion player is more interested in Eastern European Gypsy music, which I
like, but not as much as Norteno or Cumbia.
Yeah, as you could tell, it's an all work trip. Actually, I painted too pretty a picture. I have a bathroom to de-mold and paint, and, friends
(fiends?) to entertain. All the fun I listed, will probably be viewed by me through the window I am cleaning. You know the drill. But they are great
people, so it matters not.
p.s. Do you or Shari know Simo (big guy, heart of gold), who is going to be at our place? One of his best friends (or relatives) is in charge of the
Sea Turtle protection down in your area? He talks about free diving in your area all the time.
