Peso value??

Does the age/or date on the peso have any impact on converting it to dollars?

Our son found 2,000 pesos in a drawer and the bills bear the date 1983/1984.

Use those for the millions of collection cans you'll see at intersections and elsewhere.

In 1993, when the new peso was issued, the old one was trading at app. 3000 to 1, which makes your 2000 worth around 66 cents.

I don't have my calculator with me, so I'll try to do this in my head. Vandenberg is correct that the old peso was 3,000 to a dollar when Mexico dropped the last 3 digits, making 3 MXN to the $. So, in 1993 2,000 would have been worth about 66 cents, but this isn't 1993 anymore.

The MXN is now worth 13 pesos to the dollar, about 10 times less than in 1993. So, I think that 2,000 old pesos (if they were exchangable), would be worth about 6.6 US cents, so Bajalou is pretty close.

Does that sound right? It's late, and as I said, I don't have a calculator.

I overthought this. 2,000 old pesos would convert today to 2 new pesos, which is worth 15 cents US.

Old Peso -

What the heck, why couldn't it have worked the other way, what with inflation/recessions/devaluations/stimulus and all.

I could see the 2,000 pesos worth 2 million or something like that!!!

Thanks
