volaris shuttle in San Diego
I know this subject has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything through the "search" option.
I'm just curious if anyone has utilized the Volaris airline shuttle in San Diego lately. I've used Volaris in the past but had parked my car in Otay
Mesa at the "Otay Mesa Park & Shuttle" there, that was sweet, but they have since closed.
But I believe Volaris offers a shuttle from San Diego but I have not used it and I'm not sure the best way to access it from Orange County. Also any
parking issues??????
Or does anybody have any other thoughts on getting to Tijuana Airport by leaving their car in US. Thanks for your time. RT

The following is copied from the Volaris website. Apparently there are two shuttle options in the SD area:
Tijuana/San Diego, CA. - $200 MXN* Tijuana Airport from/to Downtown San Diego, CA. And $140 MXN* Tijuana Airport from/to San Ysidro. This service is
being offered by the CRUCERO ground transportation company to Volaris clients traveling to San Diego from the Tijuana Airport.

I've looked into getting a shuttle from San Diego to the TJ airport. There's one (at least there used to be one) from the AMTRAK Station downtown.

I took the Volaris shuttle about a year ago, and a friend used it last April -as far as I know it hasn't changed. You board it at the Sante Fe
station in downtown San Diego which is the AMTRAK station. You have to be there 3 hours before your flight - cost is around $15 or $20 US.
Not sure where you could leave your car parked near the AMTRAK station. If you have a friend in the area who could drop you off at the station, that
would probably be the easiest way to do it.

Volaris is now using the Crucero bus line, which runs out of the Greyhound bus station on Broadway. If you get on the Volaris website, you can
download the shuttle schedule, however, I always call first, to get the latest info because the schedules are not always up-to-date.
Experience enables you to recognize a mistake every time you repeat it.

I have used the shuttle from TIJ to the Santa Fe station with no problems. In fact, there have only been 1 or 2 other passangers most of the time and
the driver crossed at Otay which was super fast ....
The bus is an ex-Hertz shuttle bus.
Took the Coaster from the Santa Fe station to Solana Beach.
The other option is Taxi to San Ysidro then the trolly ... but that is slower.
So, my 1st preference is the bus (if the wait is not too long in TIJ).

Mucias Garcias para todo. I appreciate the input. Just a quick note. Alaska Air round trip LAX to LaPaz around Thanksgiving $450 - 600 bucks +.
Volaris about $150. A little more hassle but when 4 are flying, thats a considerale savings....... RT

not as direct, but another option...
There's a direct bus Los Angeles Greyhound - Tijuana Bus Station.
Travelers could go this route and transfer in TJ bus station to another headed for the TJ airport.

Just did it in June and going again in two weeks. Volaris Shuttle (Crucero bus) at Greyhound bus depot on Broadway. Parked at cruise ship long term
lot. No hassles, no problems and easier than LAX

We found out that the cheapest way to TJ airport is to park on the US side and ride the MEXICOACH to the airport. Parking is $5.00 per day and you can
buy a round trip ticket for $6.00 U.S.

Udo - I looked on the Mexicoach website, but didn't see anything about San Ysidro to the TJ airport. More details, please? What is the fare, how
often does it run, etc? Does it go direct from the SY parking lot to airport?
Like you, I fly out of TJ every 6-8 weeks so I'm always looking for better/faster ways to get back and forth from San Diego.

Yes, tell me more about MexicoCoach. I spend USD$12 for a taxi from Otay to the airport (about 3 or 4 miles) and 180 Pesos for the return.
In Mexico City I can go from my hotel to the airport (about 8 to 10 Miles) for 50 Pesos!!!

Is there $5 parking at San Ysidro?
I've never found less than $9.

We just parked our car at the airport in TJ when we went to Chapala and also to Monterrey. It was just over a $100.00 U.S. for 7 days. Everything was
fine Our car was only 2 months old the first time and then just a year old the second time. Even left the computer in it the first time. but it was
covered.

Another option is to call Gonzalo at 619-405-8984. He will give you door to door service in a nice full size van. It works well when you have 3
guys, bags, coolers, fishing tackle, rod holders, etc. He picked us up at two different locations and dropped us off the same. $80 per person for
the round trip. Yeah it's not the cheapest and you do have to wait in the line but it is comfortable and with a bunch of luggage it's great
especially when you bring back 50 pounds of fish a piece!
