Equipale Furniture
Does anyone know of some places in Tijuana or Rosarito with good prices on equipale furniture? I'm particularly interested in bar stools. Thanks for
your help.

Don't know what type you are looking for, but we got ours at COSTCO.
If you have a photo or a design, you might try and have them fabricated locally.

One place just north and across the street from Smart and Final (central Rosarito directly across from the La Quinta condos) has a lot of them plus a
storage room on the third floor packed floor to ceiling. Too many places to mention on Artisan Row (the stretch of Blvd Popotla in Rosarito from
Rene's to Fox Baja) . Go slow in the right lane both directions and just keep stopping at shops until you see the style you like. Then offer half of
what they are asking.

It would probably madness to consider buying from here if you are already in Mexico, but for those living NOB here's a link to a company that has been

Does anyone here know how these prices compare to what you would pay in Mexico? We are building in San Felipe and want to furnish with Mexican
furniture (rustic carved etc), but it would be silly to buy in USA and import back into Mexico. Does anyone know of a furniture store selling
traditional furniture in Mexicali or San Felipe?
Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

with delivery.

Thanks for the link. Perhaps I'll be able to find something that I like there and then I can have a reference for what I am looking for in Mexicali.

Grace - you might be better off just making a trip to Rosarito for your rustic furniture - that's where most of it is made in Northern Baja. There
are shops and shops all up and down road there. I'm sure you could bargain - especially if you're buying more than 2-3 pieces. You can also take
photos from magazines and have it custom made there, if you don't see what you want. I'd be willing to bet they would also truck it to San Felipe.
Experience enables you to recognize a mistake every time you repeat it.

I just came back from Rosarita buying some furniture. Bar-- Bar Stools & Chairs. The prices (we thought) were good & yes the more you buy the
better the prices. They are like most places right now, slow business so ready to make deals. The one deal they do not REALLy want to make is delivery
to San Felipe. Most of them said "no" way too far for them.Would not even consider it.Some friends of ours did get them to agree to deliver a very big
expensive table to them here but when they arrived they had several other pieces of furniture they had "just looked at" with the load & managed to
sell it all to them.

The 700 new Mexican custom guys installed at the border over the weekend will make importing more difficult and expensive. Most they hired are
college educated. Apparently they replaced all the inspectors with new ones trained to use the new equipment and also to collect more import taxes.
The old guards didn't get their contracts renewed but can reapply for their jobs once they are qualified. Better off buying in Mexico or just add 10%
to the US price as shopping guide until they settte in.

We live in Colorado and Baja California Sur and found that we were much better off to buy from a local big distributor, American Furniture Warehouse,
all of out mexican furniture. Because they buy in big lots from certain distributors in very large lots, there is no way that any small seller could
even come close to compteting. We shopped all over La Paz, even went to Constitucion, but found out in the long run that we saved enough to pay or
our fuel bills for that year going south. And of course, that does not figure in the amount of fuel we spent driving all over southern Baja.

All the places below Playas de Rosarito get their stock from furniture manufacturers on the mainland. The selection is about the same as they use the
same photo books. Sometimes they are willing to deal with stock on hand, but it is 2-3 weeks to order from the factory through them.
The lowest cost one is south of the Longest Summer Bar. It normally has equipales and very large vases on display on right on the curb in front of
their place or into the street occasionally. It is on the east side of the blvd.
Instead of asking all of us to do your shopping and pricing for you, get out there, enjoy the weather and the haggling. Who knows, you might like it.
