Chances Alaska Flight Will Fly from Loreto in a Storm
I'm supposed to fly out of Loreto on Tuesday afternoon. Looking at Jimena, I'm wondering if that's going to happen. How weather sensitive are flights
out of Loreto? Based on the current forecast it will be raining and a little windy, but nothing carriers all over the world don't take-off in daily.
But out of Loreto?

I thought about that, Shari, but the earlier flight (there isn't one Monday) is today and we can't get there in time at this point given packing up
our stuff and putting away our trailer, etc and from where we are.

Not so sure anyone flies Loreto to TJ. This does point out the inconvenience of the low frequency of flights to-from Loreto. The real question isn't
even whether the flight will take off from Loreto, but rather since it's a turnaround, whether they will fly to Loreto that day. The airline will have
to make a business decision, knowing if they cancel the flight down, it will be a single round trip missed. If they send the plane down and can't take
off, there will be other scheduled flights of that plane affected. If the plane lands, you'll at least know that you'll get off as soon as they are
willing to take off.

Get a flight to ANYWHERE!!!!!. Completely off of the Baja Penn.. Then rent a car. Or a room. Good Luck. ++C++

Joel,
You must realize that departures are weather sensitive out of ANY airport but I would feel secure that if its possible, then Alaska Air will fly you
out of Loreto. It doesn't have anything to do with the airport/facilities.
Alaska Air is known for taking on the weather, consider their origins. A retired AS pilot I know who flew in and out of Dutch Harbor (Unalaska)
tells some hair raising stories!
But they're not going to send that 737-400 down there from LA with a hurricane roiling nearby, you can bet on that.

I agree with not waiting. I tried to time TROPICAL STORM Julio (it wasn't even a hurricane) in August of 2008 and spend two nights sleeping in a semi
abandoned house just north of Mulege. The highway washed out in many places and was not drivable for a day. We were very lucky it was just a day given
how badly it washed out. A full-fledged hurricane? Don't mess with it..leave now if you dont live in Baja. Jon

Couldn't agree more. several years ago, we were in Cabo with an approaching hurricane. Sorry to say it was prior to the ubiquitous internet, so no one
was talking about it and information was hard to come by. anyway, our friends opted to fly out ealry, thereby giving up four more days in Cabo. We
decided to stay. We were in a hotel on playa Medano that was basically built of concrete. The next night, the storm hit. The rain and wind were awful.
The hotel had its own generators, so with the exception of a few seconds here and there, we never were in the dark. The sea breeched the seawall
repeatedly. Not sure if it managed to penetrate the first floor oceanfront rooms. But by the middle of the next day, the sun was shining; the sea was
calm. We had an additional three days to enjoy.
Point is, that if you are in a secure building, then just stay. These storms are short in duration. Buena suerte.

THEY MIGHT FLY OUT
My son and I flew out of Cabo when a hurricane was approaching. I'm not sure how close the storm was to Cabo, but there were very high winds and
pelting rain as we flew out.
Once the plane was up several thousand feet, we were above the winds and rain and into the beautiful sunny sky and had a relaxing flight home to LAX.

I am scheduled to fly out of Tijuana at 12 noon tomorrow and land in La Paz at 3pm. Haven't heard anything from Volaris yet. Current weather at La
Paz airport not all that windy or rainy. This Jimena is supposed to be the worst hurricane anywhere this year. Hope Volaris makes up its mind soon
as to wheather it will fly or not.
Anyone know what the weather in La Paz is like right this moment?
