Camping along the way
Hola Todo, We're leaving near the end of September for our semi annual Rotarian clinic in La Paz and plan on camping in our 25' 5th wheel along the
way. So far, we plan on Corona Beach south of Ensenada, El Pabellon south of San Quintin, Coco's Corner, San Lucas Cove south of Santa Rosalia, El
Requeson south of Mulege, and Juncalito south of Loreto. We'll be taking plenty of time driving down (and back as well). Does anyone have any
information on any of these camping areas regarding camping fees, accessability, safety concerns, etc.? Also if anyone has other recommendations I
would love to hear them. Thanks in advance, Paul Boe

"El Juncalito"...camping is at Free Beach, which is the NEXT dirt road turn off south, about 1/4 mile, past the dirt road/sign to El Juncalito. there
is no access to the camping area from El Juncalito itself due to an arroya. turning anything large if you take the wrong turn is tricky but doable
however easily avoided by knowing where to go in the first place. accessibility to the beach/camping varies after hurricane season, sometimes the far
area of the 'road' gets washed out and winter campers have to dig out the bank/correct the drop off to continue. scout first...there's nowhere to
turn around if the road is washed out and you'd be backing up a very rocky stream bed/road. I'll be back the end of September and if you u2u me when
you're headed south I'll check it out for you.
there are no services except garbage bins but the city of Loreto comes out maybe once a week to collect a fee, last year about 200 pesos/night/'site'
which is pick your own piece of sand. they have not been collecting during the summer, no se when they will start again, end of September/early
October you may miss them. camping on the northern end of the beach, in the palms and brush north of the lighthouse gives more protection from north
winds but you should be fine anywhere that time of year.
safety is about average or above par for Baja. just take usual precautions and leave someone in camp/have neighboring campers watch or such if you
leave for long.
walk north up the beach and say hi when you are in the area!
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

Coco's corner is 13 rough miles from Hwy 1. I know people tow trailers up that road to Gonzaga but I don't think it would be much fun with your 25'
5th wheel.

Rancho St. Inez, Catavina is a nice place for desert camping. The arroyo and boulder fields are fun to explore and it's far enough from the highway
that the downshifting trucks won't be heard.

If you just have to visit Coco's corner, park the 5 th. wheel and make it a side trip.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I was planning on leaving the 5th wheel at Rancho Santa Inez while I go out to Coco's. I need to see him to do
a follow up visit on the bilateral below knee prostheses I delivered to him in the spring.

Give our best to Coco Coco. He was doing pretty good in early July.
