New developments in Baja
I'm interested in Mexican real estate while I never bought any I still like to look. Two of the Baja developments I was interested in, were Loreto Bay
in Loreto and Maravia in La Paz. I have been to both sites while on Baja vacations, Loreto in Oct 2006, Maravia in Oct 2008. Now I know all the
troubles that Loreto Bay ran into, does anyone know what has happened to Maravia? I know they completed their desalination plant, which was suppose to
signal the start of the golf course construction. I requested more information on their website over a week ago, and have heard nothing. I suspect
they to have gone belly up, does anyone know what is going on?
Also have any Nomads taken the new ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan lately? If so how long did it take to cross? Last time I was in Mazatlan (April
2008) the whole ocean front from Nuevo Mazatlan up to and through the golden zone was alive with new condo towers going up everywhere. I would imagine
that has all ground to a halt as well, can anyone confirm?

It's like I've said. Once the hurricane skirted past Cabo, it became a non-event in the media up North. So, I'm guessing the newbie was sincerely
researching real estate, looked for Baja-related informational sources, and registered here, not bothering to read the posts on the hurricane or
Mulege. There was another such occurrence a couple of days ago.

Ooops sorry for my ignorance, its raining here in the Shuswap BC area, but there sure isn't a hurricane nearby!

What does the fact that some people were affected by the hurricane have to do with someone asking a legitimate question here? After all most of us are
sitting in the comfort of our homes with power, water, and internet, unaffected and able to answer a question.

I think that there are a large number of Nomads who are quite edgy right now. Some, wondering about friends and family; some wondering about their
property and or investments. I just think that folks who happen into here right now may just not experience the usual hospitality.

I once emailed the people at Maravia and also did not receive any feedback. I was in the area recently and did not see any movement on their part for
the purposed golf course. Like alot of developments in baja that tout all the amenities, they may either finish, change, never start, or delay the
project
My personal recommendation would to find a Lot that suits your needs and buy it. I wouldn't really throw money down on some proposed delvelopment.

Maravia has MAJOR problems & you'd be wise not to get sucked into their sales spiel. Unlike Loreto Bay, they haven't fessed up, nor has there
been the publicity about the site, the development company or any or the problems. I know 2 people who bought there, Maravia reneged on the deal
& refused to show up at the fideicomiso signing a year after they accepted 50% down on the lot & the other is now trying to sell, which will
be very hard to do.

Thanks for the responses about Maravia longlegsinlapaz(cool name!) and slimshady. To bad about Maravia I figured it was in trouble, but it sure hasn't
been to publicized. Man I could handle living close to Tecolote beach and those amazing roasted clams, what a special place that is.
I doubt I would ever buy property in Mexico or any foreign country unless, I was in a position to walk away from that investment if I lost it all,
whether that be to natural or political reasons. Given the price point of recreational property in foreign countries that is a hard pill to swallow,
especially when domestic recreational property is spiraling down in value in Canada and the US.
But like I said I love to look real estate where ever I travel and like the idea of "sustainable living" and escaping the cold winters here in Canada
(BC And Alberta). My wife love to visit Mexico 2 or 3 times a year for 1 and 2 weeks at a time. But we eventually would like to stay longer in an area
to really get to know the area and the culture. I think when that time comes we will just rent something long term and go from there.

dss_dork, don't throw in the towel yet. There should be great chances to get into already established developments. No reason to feel guilty about
your good fortune of not owning already. Even though you may pay much less than someone else did, you'd still be providing liquidity to the market.

There are so many ways to acquire real estate in Mexico. There are horror stories about them all. The ejido land, leased land, fideicomiso, direct
ownership (away from the coast)Etc. Bottom line, however, is that you must do your homework. Way too many of the horror stories that have been
recounted over the years are from people who became seduced and intoxicated by the idea of having a place in Mexico and let their guard down. Study.
Ask probing questions. Research. I, personally do not subscribe to the notion that one need to be prepared to walk away from their investment when
buying in Mexico. In fact, it may not be too long before foreigners will be able to have deeded ownership in the coastal zone.
