OMG....I hadnt seen this thread for a few days..whoa nelly...what an enlightening ordeal....sorry you had to go through it lovebahia...

but I just want to come clean about one thing so I wont be labeled DISHONEST...I admit to having refilled a few shampoo bottles from time to time when I didnt have any new ones...cant get em around these parts....but never ever thought I was being dishonest...they said the RITZ on them...or Sheraton or something...the seal is gone...guess I need to post a little sign saying ...these bottles have been refilled...shampoo at your own risk!
Dont ya just love those houses where there are signs on everything!!!

I now have some new shampoos, conditioners but still fill the liquid handsoap containers...I'm so naughty.

Jeepers, the issues at Baja Cactus sure sound familiar...I can really sympathise with Antonio...we are onsight and this stuff still happens.

I really liked Antonios gracious response...and LOVE Baja Cactus...

Hijacks. Off-topic. Just seems that some of the more entertaining threads are those that wander.

I can't lie, I really enjoyed staying at Baja Cactus recently. There really isn't another place like it that is so affordable for people traveling who desperately need rest. The clerk made me feel like family. And Mama Espinosas was good too, we made a group table for anyone who wanted to join and had a nice dinner with new friends.

The next night south we stayed at Malarmo (I think) in GN, that was very nice too, the restaurant was great and it felt safe.

I think how much you enjoy a simple room may depend on how tired you are and needing a place to stay versus being broken down and wanting to leave? Just a thought.

yeah, right. dk, perhaps your problem is your need to "correct" everyone elses facts.

now, as far as hotels go,... i find baja cactus to be an OK motel, but if you want a hotel, you should go to a hotel and not a motel. baja cactus and the town is kind of a truck stop ambiance. i prefer to car camp in catavina desert when passing thru, better than a motel room.

gnukid- Whoa! I am stunned that you would refer to feeling safe as a reason to eat at Malarrimo. It's been there for decades. Guerrero Negro is a VERY safe town. Aside from the immediate border region, wazzup about feeling safe? If I had a single complaint about Malarrimo, it would be, that unlike most of Mexico, they tend to rush you through dinner. Like they've got a convention coming in later? Food is usually quite good. And there are a few other restaurants in town who do as well or better. If anything, I think Malarrimo sits on its laurels as having been there the longest, and thinks it caters to tourists better than anyone else.

My comments were directed to the original poster, Lovebahia22 who I thought might appreciate a list of very affordable places to stay on the way with some idea of safe parking, internet etc... So yes, Malarrimo $35/for two people last time, I enjoyed a relaxing dinner there for about 5-6 hours and the staff joined me until they had to hit the hay at 11pm, they arrive again at 6 or 7am so I can imagine they might to close the kitchen at some point. Very nice bar and internet signal.

So to add to that, I highly recommend not driving too long each day and not too early or too late past dark. And if you do choose a motel ask for room options and go look to be sure, they often have ranges of prices/rooms if you ask.

One more restaurant I like is in Bomfil which is a trucker pull out town just north of Santa Rosalia, on the left mid town (there are only about 5-7 buildings there), there is a restaurant though I don't recall the name other Bomfil Restaurant, the food is very good and reasonably priced. I always stop and have a very nice time. There are also 24 hour cafes with bathrooms, just knock on the door. Rooms for rent too, the sound of running motors will put you to sleep after a margarita.

See you at the beach lovebahia22!

p.s. Haharhar Dennis I guess you can imagine it takes me awhile to head south with so many great restaurants! Salut! Har-har harumph. errrr%$#@!

Thanks, Barry. You may already know I did a doctoral thesis on the word..it's inception in the vernacular and subsequent metamorphosis to common usage. The premise of my study was, the more EEEEs used in the exclamation, the more adamant the speaker.
Sooooooooooooo, there you are.
Thanks for your commentttttttttttt.

Byyy the wayyyy, I'm working on other, related ideasssssss. I'll keeeeeeeep you posteddddddd.

I just read all off the posts on this thread. I was expecting old farts giving a twenty something advice about Baja( I love the single woman asking about Baja threads that seems to pop up every 6 months or so.) What a bunch of whiners. Re-filled shampoo bottles in Baja, I've yet to see a shampoo bottle in any of the places I've stayed at, usually it's a bar of Rosa Venus and a book of matches with a German Shepard on the cover. What do you expect from a country that doesn't even have the technology to be be able to flush your TP instead of placing it in a waste basket by the toilet. Actually I've used this to judge how good a Mexican restaurant is in the US. If there's a buch of skid marked TP in the wastebasket it usually serves good food. I'm a bit of a leftie, but I think DK is a real asset to this site. I've learned more about Baja from his postings than anyone else's.

If a Mexican restaurant in the US has a bunch of skid-marked TP in the waste basket, it usually also has a dirty remnant bar of soap on the sink, no hot water, and no paper towels. Bon appetit!

I live dirty to keep up my resistance, to a point. On a dirt bke trip to Mulge a local buddy of ours took us out to see some cave paintings. A stream flowed through the canyon he took us to, there was a lot of cattle in itand it smelled like it too. He started drinking water from the stream and told us how good it was. We all held up the tubes from our Camelbaks and said "That's okay."

burnrope, Yea, it's one of those drinking poop things, "Beaver Fever" or what ever else deficates in the water. All boils down to slurping up some E.coli. It'll turn your stomach into a war zone.
