crossing going south

My kids and I will be traveling down to Baja next week. My question is now that the US guys are checking cars at the border going south has anyone had a problem crossing with kids without both parents present. Mom will be flying down ahead of us.

Kids Crossing

You're probably OK unless the kid is packing more than 10k or an AK-47.

You will have no problem going south.
Heading north, we have never been asked about the kids when only one of us is present.
We have sent our kids home with friends and sent a letter along but they were also never asked.

Below is the form I prepared for our use;

Travel Authorization for xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

To whom it may concern;

I, xxxxxxxxxxxx (father) and xxxxxxxxxxx (mother), are the legal and biological parents of xxxxxxxxxxxxx, age xx.
I authorize my wife xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to escort our son xxxxxxxx, as his guardian in their travels from San Jose del Cabo, BCS, Mexico to Portland, Oregon, USA.

They are currently scheduled to travel on February 13, 2007, aboard;
US Airways Flight 308 departing San Jose del Cabo, MX at 2:29 pm and arriving
in Phoenix, Arizona, USA at 4:40 pm.
They are scheduled to continue on;
US Airways flight 92 departing at 5:55 pm and arriving in Portland, Oregon at
7:50 pm.

__________________________, xxxxxxxxxxxxxx; address

In case of emergency, please contact xxxxxxx’s grandparents, xxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxxxx in xxxxxxxxxxx, AZ at xxx-xxx-xxxx home or xxx-xxx-xxxx cell phone.
I can be contacted via our motel at 011 52 612 114-0214 in La Ventana, BCS, MX.

Notary Certificate
State of Washington
County of Klickitat

I certify that I know or have satisfactory evidence that xxxxxxxxxx is the person who appeared before me, and said person acknowledged that he signed this instrument and acknowledged it to be his free and voluntary act for the uses and purposes mentioned in the instrument.

As long as you have a letter like diver posted, it will not be a problem.

Here is the form that I have always used. However, I think Diver's info looks more complete. This has never failed me though.....Especially stamped by a notary - they just love stamps down in Mexico!!!
