new requirement for dogs coming into MX

Has anyone heard about a new requirement for any dogs coming into Mexico from Canada and the U.S. that each dog must have a separate document from a vet stating the dog is free of any worms or parasites? I was told a government official checks these documents when you enter the country. Hope someone has more information.

Never heard of that. I find it hard to believe they would be concerned with dog worms.

News to us too. We bring our dogs back and forth all the time and have been through the red light revisions with them recently. They just need to be friendly dogs. I could understand proof of rabies shots like headed north, but American dogs with "worms"? They made Rosarito on-leash only now so who knows. Maybe they simply don't want people with dogs any more.

You know how embedded the fear of dogs is in Mexicans.

If I remember correctly, there was something mentioned about this on the Baja Western Onion, which came via the La Paz Gringos... I also find it quite incredible that they would have someone specifically checking for a separate document that says the dogs are free from intestinal parasites.... would that not be covered in the International health certificate??? I certainly hope so... every time we get one here in Victoria it costs us
$100!!! (for each dog!)

Remember, when in Mexico, yes may be no and no may be
maybe!

It could be for air travel.

We Travel with our dogs every week. Only a few times I have been asked by CBP for thier shot records. Make sure you have those on hand. They can be from a Mexican or American Vet. what they stress on are the rabies shots.
But no problemo!

Dogs

Got the green light last Sunday at TJ, then a guy waved me into the inspection lane anyway. A friendly young agent asked me a couple of questions, looked at the packed trunk without touching anything, and then asked if any of my three dogs would be able to make a puppy for him. No mention of health, papers, worms, nada.

Should have told him to go downtown to Adelitas and act like a man instead of violating your dog.

Over the years I cross the border some 5-6 times a year. I have had a dog with me on every crossing. Only once have I been asked for proof of a rabies shot for my dog. The request came from an Agricultural Agent, not Mexican Customs. I don't think they much care about worms.

These are all replacement border officials. It is a whole new ballgame. What you did in the past isn't relevant any more.

Please, can we have some reports from people who have taken dogs into Baja in the last three or four weeks, since the new officials have taken over? We need several reports referencing different border crossings, so as to get an idea of what to expect from now on. I say "several reports" because there is always the exception. We need a consensus. Thanks.

Crossed south two weeks ago with our two Rottys at Mexicali East. Had to stop in at Immagration to get my FM3 stamped.

While driving through the Declaration lane the Border guard (civilian now) stopped me to look at the Paperwork for our two jet ski's that I was towing and one of the dogs went bolistic, he asked me for my Drivers License to match up the registration and we were out of there. The dogs are kept in a large plywood kennel in the bed of the truck just inside the tailgate so if you walk too close you get quite a scare but they didn't say a thing...

Crossing again this coming weekend with dogs... Will report back...

What's really funny is when the Army guys attempt to tease them. You've never seen these guys jump so fast when the dogs light up! Of course they're friendly dogs as many Nomads know... They are just defending their space as any dog would.

160# Newf no problem

"Schooch" has never been asked for his papers coming into MX or going north. If we take our motorhome we get pulled over for the agriculture check. We get alot of questions just because he is one big, black handsome guy that makes him look intimidating.
