Beer drinking in Mexico
Saw k-rico post of beautiful wooden beer keg... had never seen one here in the States or in Mexico before... saw them in Germany and other places,
just not here.
It's an art to make the container and contents and this appears to be an example which was made right in Tijuana
Was hoping to learn more about the location of Mexican brewery's and the types of "beer" which are currently available in the Baja.
We may be able to turn the whole economy around.....

also made in Baja: 'Tecate' Beer and 'Mexicali' Beer (made in Tecate)...
The finest beer to most Nomads is 'Pacifico' (made in Mazatlan)... another fine beer is XX (Dos Equis) Special Lager and Amber... and the list goes on
and on with both light and dark beers!

Gee Russ, I thought it was 'common knowledge'!
There have been MANY beer polls taken on Nomad... Pacifico has always been the top choice... hasn't it?
I am talking about all Nomads (not just Mexicans... who prefer Bud Lite and Tecate from what I have seen).
Tecate from Tecate is very good... The Tecate sold up here in the US comes from the Monterrey brewery, and is inferior tasting, IMO.

Over twice as many voted for Pacifico (24) as the next place brew (Bohemia: 11)... Tecate and Negra Modelo tied for third place: 10.

Beer drinking in Mexico
On beer, used to take beer with us when going down... took a lot of room in my 57 VW, but it made road a lot smoother.
I had also seen on the board, someone was mentioning they were bring 4-5 cases of "Bud" with them...
I used to enjoy the Corona, but this was way before anyone put fruit in it... my Dad drank only "Dos Equis", but then he like Luck Lager too...
I could drink them for a while, a week or so, but then I wanted something else.
When I saw the k-rico's post with that "wooden" beer barrel... made me curoius about changes in Mexican beer.
Looking for input/survey on how good the beer is down south of the border in Baja..
There is a Dos Equis can on the left fender of my 1957 VW, That is my Dad on the left and friend, south of San Quintin while camped in the pickle weed
in 1967.
Thought maybe things have changed in Mexican Beer since 1967... hence the posts.
Wish I had taken more pictures, took 8 rolls of film and only two pictures…

I don't think it's the gringos drinking that slop. I do, however see Mexican laborers getting off work in the evening buying it by the boat load.

I have pointed this out before on the Nomad board (and others) but I don't think people were paying attention. I was the first American citizen to
discover Pacifico, and I introduced it to the US of A. This happened on the old dive boat Baja Explorador in 1986 where it was served in little tiny
bottles. You had to drink about 25 of them to get a modest buzz (after the last dive of the day, of course). I was so impressed with the brew that,
after I returned from the dive trip, I found it in an obscure little Canoga Park market, bought several hundred little bottles, and introduced it to
my beer-drinking friends. After that, its popularity spread widely throughout North America, until it finally was voted #1 in the Nomad survey.
So there.

I just can't drink much Pacific or Corona. I have discovered too many things in the recycled bottles that aren't beer. But I'm older and only swell
beer on occasion now and prefer just drinking Tecate Light. I know, there's just no accounting for some peoples tastes. Only excuse is, I was a Coors
baby and I'm reverting to my yute.

i have been taste testing Miller High Life against Tecate, both in cans.
the Tecate wins hands down...hands are down because it is on my drive home in the afternoon. Both 24 oz cans. Tall Boys.
the tecate tastes smoother, has higher buzz content and does not foam as much when poured into my stealth cup.
formerly Ordained in Rev. Ewing\'s Church by Mail - busted on tax fraud.......

Oh sure...I remember, Ken. We talked about the little bottles, splits as they're called. Mexicans call them espleets.
Anyway, as I mentioned then, in the Comfort Clubs way back when, if you wanted to buy a beer for one of the pretty little things working there,
they were served an espleet and given a ticket to cash in at the end of her shift. I think you can still buy espleets at the dealer.
That's what I remember...I think.

Corona might be for beginners or wine drinkers, maybe! Seriously, it was our favorite back when we were 18... My how things change as we mature!
