TEQUILA EXPO OCT. 15-18
Any Nomads going?  My family and I will be there on Saturday the 17th. We
should be there from opening time til about 4 p.m.

I can't make it this year. Be sure to try the Espolon reposado! You might need a taxi afterwards. It was a lot of fun when I went a few years ago.

Thanks for the tip...sorry you won't make it this year.
We will be taking the Mexicoach bus from the parking lot across the TJ border. $6.00 U.S. is a bargain for the round trip, considering the busses have
their own line in crossing back to the US, and a dedicated customs line at the immigration building. It's about a 15 minute wait from TJ to the US
side. Be sure to bring your US passport, however.

There haven't been any publisized killings in TJ in the last few months
and TJ has always been a lot of fun!
And especially with the tequila expo in a few days.

The Expo is right in front (the entire block) of the Fronton Palacio (the Jai Alai stadium).

Costs $5.00 for the tastings (similar to a wine tasting tour at a winery). You'll end up tasting about 75 tequilas from all over the country.

If they did a bus trip to the TJ Brewery... well I would be there!
Why beer instead of Tequila?
Have you heard:

Same as every year, I have free admissions to the Expo-Tequila. Just let me know what times you will be there and I will meet with you.
The best time is Event Opening Day, thursday the 15th at 1PM.
A well informed Baja California traveler is a smart Baja California traveler!

SMALLER, BUT STILL FUN...ESPECIALLY WITH FERNANDO & SIMONE![/B]
1:00 P.M. arrived and the Expo opened. PLUS Fernando was waiting for the five of us with passes in hand!
The organizers moved the Expo one block to the North, which was about 100' shorter than last year. The shorter bock accomodated about 20 Tequila
exhibitors, compared to about 50 the last couple of years. I think we would have had to make three passes at all the booths to get a little over a
shot glass worth of tastings. They had some really BAD Tequila ($2.00/ bottle), and they also had the other extreme with CARA DE ORO
as well as DEGOLLADO. Both were double anejo. Extremely tasty and somewhat expensive...$65.00 and $75.00 per bottle U.S. The rest of the tequilas we
got to taste were in the mid $20.00 U.S. per bottle. They did have El Charro for $11.00 U.S. per box that contained a one liter plus a quarter liter,
and they gave you an extra bottle with purchase. El Charro is many Nomads' favorite cheap tequila. There was no Espolon, Martyman!
One of the best tequilas we tasted was not available for sale...it was a buotique tequila for which we had to pay $5.00 U.S. to taste. The photo is
below. It came in a 10 gallon jug and had a dead rattlesnake preserved inside. This booth also sold liters of PULQUE. They also had a variety of other
unusual drinking items for sale.
David K missed out because one booth offered a large variety of beers for sale.
I was somewhat disappointed in the food. The chefs were oviously frazzled by having to feed too many people at one time and did not put any local love
into the food preparation. The Mexican pizza was bland, as well as the tamales wrapped in banana leaves. The one place that offered carne asada also
had bland food (the seasonings were not there).
If Fernando would not have supplied the passes, the entry fee would have been $5.00 U.S., and well worth the price of admission. The only thing I wish
the organizers would have brought back was the full tent with a roof. It was somewhat warm with the sun beating down on us, and I'll bet the
exhibitors that were on the East side were really getting to sweat.
One my personal highlights was when I managed to talk the vendor from the Alma de Mujer distributorship, where I purchased the Cara De Oro tequila)
out of the nice golf shirt off his back with the purchase. Fernando even said I shoudda been a Mexican!
