Well that is quite a story. When Andy and Bea run the shop, it was mas o menos prifitable. (At least more menos as Andy could not make correct payments for his place in the Oasis and left a lot of debt behind when he sold it Then Andy and Bea got devorced. t As said, they used to live in the Oasis. Then Bea married the sun of the guy running the pharmacy across from ElCantil. Those two moved in at the Oasis site, living w/ Andy:bounce:
Well, that was not going very well and Andy wanted to go to Cuba. And Bea and his new Mexican hubby moved to Switzerland.
So the business was sold to this Mick guy.
Mick is well known for his tamper and lack of selfcontrol and missing manners.
He and his son are walking through town w/ no shirt on. That's a No-No in Mexico, at least inside town. B/c or not because of his tamper, his wife(if they were married??) - Maria - left him some time ago.
The shop looks not very clean today and not like he's doing a lot of business.

In one word: he's a looser.

I didn't know Mick before the BBP hurricane relief effort and know nothing about his diving outfit but I do know that he worked long and hard with us during the time I was there in Mulege. I very much appreciated his help and "get it done" attitude.....dt

aw geez squid...dont ya think that's a bit harsh? we're not all perfect!
Like mexicanos, mick is from another culture that has it's own cultural norms. Mick has always been a very helpful, well mannered guy when he visits here....i know LOTS of guys who have temper issues that arent losers.
He bought a business that wasnt profitable to begin with and anyone running a business in mexico knows that it aint easy...particularly a niche business like diving in a place like Mulege.

The post from Squidly tells us a lot about him and very little actually about Mick. I do know Mick, have known him for a long time, and have never witnessed the behaviors Squidly reports, so my tendency would be to write him off and figure he somehow does not come too close to measuring up to Mick's level anyway.

i've known Mick since he set up.
he's a nice friendly guy living and working in a tough market.

we dove with Andy ONCE.....he was the WORST dive guide i ever had. no sense of customer service. terrible attitude and disposition.

Miguel (former owner) is a great dive guide too, we went with him when Andy still had the shop. Andy didn't feel like going that day and we had pre paid so he called Miquel who was great to spend the day with.

i wish Mick and company success.

Mick is a world class dive instructor! He is operating in a tough economic environment, given lack of tourists, hurricanes and floods. He was a hero during Hurricane John, rescuing people from the surging flood.

Gossip of a personal nature is off limits. Bad form! None of Squid's business. Unsubstantiated and not welcome!

Squid has posted here in the past. She has always displayed this same unpleasant, and critical of gringos, tone. Go back and look at her posts. You will get the picture. Maybe she will go away again 'cause she didn't find many friends here. :barf:

I can't help, I have to respond to this one.Tony, does "gossipof a personal nature is off limits"" only counts for Americans or to everybody.Let me tell you that Mick is doing just that and does not know anything about what he is talking about. He is judging folks without any knowledge about the folks. He badmouth folks just like that. So???And something else. Does what Michael said (quote) if you have nothing nice to say about a person, shut your friggin mouth(end quote) only count for Americans? Or for everybody? So You old fark are talking bad about me. But that is, I assume, quite a different story out of your. And that you see viewpoint, right?
And that you learn how wrong you are, you are forgetting that my hubby is AMERICAN. But an honest one who can handle criticism and never talks slimy!~

Squid....I just went back through a few pages of your past posts and remembered some of your nonsense which you seem to continually bring up....that being a wide seperation between Mexicans and Americans. You are hyper-defensive and in most cases wrong, bordering on racist.
There is no room for those sentiments here. Regardless of what nationality we are, we strive to work together and avoid those damageing attacks. They serve no constructive purpose.
Isn't there a site where you can join with other "Gringo" haters and have your way with your opinions of us? I'm sure you'll have a much better and fulfilling time.

By the way...I got that quote, "Gringo" from one of your earlier posts and it wasn't meant in the spirit of comradery. It was accusatory. Shame on you, squid.

I don't know about everyones Mama on this post but my Mama tought me, "if you dont' have something good to say, don't say it!"

I believe this applies to American's, Mexican's or anyone else who takes up space on this planet.

Bernie Madoff does not apply to the above.

Oh sh-t, I just thought of a lot of people that this does not apply to, Mama might of been wrong, but keep it off Baja Nomad!

Hi everyone, first off I would like to introduce myself. I am Mick Chapman of Cortez Explorers.

I will not hide behind a fictitious name, such as "Squid" for instance. I would like to publicly thank those of you that have stated some nice things about myself and my diving and personal credentials, but feel I also need to reply to the person (I understand that "squid" is female) also in public.

Squid, an open text to you. It would be nice if you were to come out from hiding behind your nickname, and go public also. I have no idea who you are, where you receive your information from, and indeed your comments about my son, Maria and myself are beyond the "personal" mark I feel.

I can state quite categorically that I have NEVER, and I mean NEVER walked through town without a shirt on my back, with or without my son. Equally, he would never do the same for respect of the locals. We both lived and worked in the Middle East before I came to Baja, and I certainly learned there that such behavior is not appropriate. So, you are very wrong there.

As to Maria's and my relationship, that is non of your damned business. Maria is actually in the States on her own personal business at this time, and equally, that is non of your business either. I find your statements extremely distasteful in the extreme.

Now to the state of my DC. For your information, and others that are reading this, I have all the furniture from the house here at the DC right now as the house took a 12ft hit of water, so in one way you are correct, the place looks a little like a second hand stall, but for the moment, there is little I can do about that. At least it is clean and I am ready to teach/dive at anytime. I have to ask how you have your information, as I do not know of any Mexican lady that has been in my DC even over the last six months. Hearsay is not good enough, you really do need proof when making such derogatory statements.

Now to my temper. I do not get angry easily, but when I do, I do go to town, especially with people like yourself that have it seems nothing better to do than slander other people while hiding behind a pseudonym. I wonder why you do that?? I'll tell you why I get angry. It is mostly over the idiot talk that goes on here in Mulege from people that it seems have nothing better to do with their lives than drink and talk about people behind their backs, and/or behind a nickname. I get quite frustrated with people like yourself that truly have no idea what they are talking about, but either make things up, or embellish the fiction of others. The world of small towns/places are full of people such as yourself.

So I challenge you "Squid", make your real name public, and even come into my DC and sit down and talk with me face to face. I can handle that, can you??

Finally, to quote your good self: "In one word, he's a looser." Maybe you should learn to spell as well as get your facts straight by doing some research and reconnaissance before opening your computer to rubbish people/situations that you really have no knowledge of. Also, "he's a loser" (correct spelling) is three words!!

I might publicly suggest you get a life as well as getting your facts straight.

I actually wonder if you are Mexican. I wonder if you come from another European country like myself. Say Germany for instance!! However, one can only figure that out if you reveal your true identity.

Thanks once again to you more understanding, and more informed people out there.

Mick Chapman
