Algadones to San Felipe
My brother-in-law and his family are coming to join us in San Felipe. They are flying into Phoenix and will spend the night in Yuma before crossing
into Mexico. Is it an easier drive to cross at Algadones and connect with Mexico 5 below Mexicali or would it be more advisable to drive to Calexico
and cross into Mexico there. We've never crossed at Algadones so I don't know if it is clearly marked on how to get to San Felilpe from there. Any
advise?
Whenever I hear that rainy, chill wind blow. I think it may be time to head for Mexico. Tengo que obedecer mi corazon!

If you cross at Algodones, which I do frequently, you can go south on hwy 2 (this is the reccomended route by the locals) and will run in to the 4
lane highway real close to San Luis. Head west and you will run into the intersection of the San Felipe road. The road is fast and misses the
congestion and confusion of Mexicali. You can also load up on the best prices in all of Mexico on liquor and since there is no limit some very good
buys can be had.
If they were not going to be shopping in Algodones, then you can also enter at San Luis which is just south of Yuma on Highway 95. I have crossed
here also but normally have things I want to pick up in Algodones.
I use that road to go to Tecate and love the scenery of the Rumarosa grade.

If they are new to traveling in Mexico, I would send them from Yuma, down highway 95 to San Luis and right after they cross the border they turn right
at the first stop light, that is Hwy 2(d) D=Toll road so they will have to pay about 14 pesos or dollar equivelent and then follow 2 until you get to
the San Felipe exit and then they will have to pay another 14 pesos. It is great road and it gets them over to Hwy 5 without having to go through
Algedonas and all of the little towns nor will they have to cross at Mexicali and fight the crazy drivers. We are heading down from Phx next Wed at
around noon, when are they going down?

They don't need to pay any tolls and Algodones is out of the way. Simply cross at San Luis, go straight 3 blocks, turn left 2 blocks, then right to
the "Y", then right. This is the old road to El Golfo, Mex 40. Turn right on BC 4 at Luis B. Sanchez and follow it to Mex 5, then a short right
North (you can't turn left) to a turn around, then South to SF. No tolls, no traffic.

The office is right there at the crossing. You fill out the form, walk a block or two to a bank (upstairs) then back to the office with your receipt.
A heluva lot easier than Ensenada, where I'll NEVER get papeles again.
