ATM in Ensenada
Heading to Ensenada tomorrow for 3 days. Got a short list of restaurants to try from this forum, staying at Villa Fontana and plan to check out
Anthony's Cultural Center. Anything else?
Can anyone suggest where I might find a reliable ATM or should I just carry enough cash to last the trip?

Thre are ATM's (banks) all over the downtown area. Carry a minimum of cash, especially when attending "events" at the ACC.

The nearest (and most visible) ATM in Ensenada is right across the street from the large Mexican flag where the cruise terminal resides.
You need to take into account that the Mexican ATM's spit out Pesos plus you have to be able to read the directions in Español.

Good advice but, a minimum amount of cash won't buy much at the ACC.
Where's Lou Fishbuck Dobbs when we have questions about Anthony's Money Matters?

Not sure about the directions in Spanish as most, if not all, of the ATM's I have used in Mexico also display information in English or at least the
Spanish is easy to follow. Not sure about the Ensenada area, however in most of Mexico I have been in, you are better off with pesos because of the
exchange rate - dollars to pesos - the folks there will use.

Not wishing to jump on, but my experience has been that more ATMs provide English and Spanish than don't. There are ATMs all over Ensenada. My only
advice would be to shy away from any standalone ones you may encounter is stores, as these are likely privately owned. I'm not referring to the major
bank machines one finds in the department stores and supermarkets. While I don't consider it a major problem, I did actually get shorted by 20 Pesos
at a private ATM a couple of years ago. And to add insult to injury, the machine did not provide a receipt. I complained to the merchant, who did call
the bank to which the machine was connected, but ultimately, I got no satisfaction. So, just keep your transactions limited to major brand bank
machines.

I've never seen an ATM in Ensenada that didn't belong to a bank. Just one more reason why I should get out more, I guess.

ATM & ACC
You might wish to shy away from mentioning these two abbreviations to her; in the same sentence anyway.

I don't know from Anthony's. Is it a Casa de gato??
Alright - I googled it and see that it's a place I drive by on my way south. I recognize the dopey gorilla. This is from their website:
"Drinks are $2 / $3 dollars for the guys and $4.50 for the girls. Bar fines are $12"
Why do they charge girls more than guys?? And what is a 'bar fine'?
Do these questions mean I'm naive?
Wow - 2nd edit: this from Wiki:
A bar fine (sometimes written as "barfine" or "bar-fine"), bar fee, or (in engrish) paybar, is the payment made by customer to the operators of a bar
(particularly hostess bars or go-go bars) that allows a dancer or hostess or some other employee of that bar to leave work early, usually in order to
accompany the customer outside the bar back to his hotel room. A bar fine may also be required in order to take the employee to a more secluded part
of the same establishment, such as a short-time room.
This practice is common in some venues involved in prostitution in South-east Asian countries such as Thailand and the Philippines. The bar fine
amount and whether sexual services are included in the bar fine or have to be negotiated separately are both subject to local custom.
It is also a standard feature of dockside nightclubs in South Africa[citation needed] that cater to foreign seamen.
Bar fines also make an appearance in Latin countries in the form of a Salida (Spanish: exit fee); in some other venues, such as boliches in Argentina,
there can be a similar requirement to buy the lady a number of drinks before she leaves.
I think I've learned all I need to know about this.

Santiago - it's like this; if you have to ask you probably don't want to know
As for the rest of you I will post a full report tomorrow.

How did this thread go from Ensenada ATM's to bars? Where BTW I would not even consider using an ATM, the bar, that is.

No need to, Udo. Anthony's will take a check.

Well, like all threads here, it wandered in a nomadic fashion. Plus, I started it and it seems that all of my threads eventually end up as discussions about bars and girls

The Banamex ATM on the right going into town has problems, didn't take my money or give me any money.
