Costco San Diego vs. Costco Mexico

Any advice from Nomads? What is special between the borders that I should look for?

I am a Costco member newbie, so I don't know if I should stop in TJ or go over the border from Mexico.

Major purchases are dog related. Toilet paper, not so much.

Apologies, on rereading my post, it appeared that I might come off as sarcastic, which was not my intent.

If we can go to Costco TJ and buy quality dog food at a good/equivalent/better price than going across the border to San Diego, I would like to know.

Also, I would like to know about great finds/good things to look for in the TJ Costco.

It's been my experience that Costco Mexico offers, across the board, inferior product than what's available in the States... From meat and produce to toilet paper, tools and electronics.

Also, the imported product can be 10-20% higher in price which is inexcusable. NAFTA has effectively eliminated tariffs but Costco is still passing these costs on.

I shop Costco in the U.S. for now but expect the new border regs will eventually eliminate this option.

We shop Costco in both SoCal and Cabo. Costco prices in Cabo tend to be higher than US, but much cheaper than Mexican supermarkets. For example a Costco hotdog in US is $1.50 and at Costco Cabo about $1.85. Can't comment on dog food but tp is much cheaper and better quality in the US.

Costco Cabo has terrific deals on tequila!

The Kirkland brand dog foods are available in both, but they are cheaper in the US.

Shop in the US Costcos. Soon the border will get back to normal.

Comparing US Costco and US WalMart to Mexican Costco and WalMart, I prefer US Costco and WalMart. Better selection and quality. There is only a difference of some 10-15 miles between them in Mexicali or Calexico/El Centro, CA, where I shop. The only pain in the hind end is the northbound crossing.

The Costco return policy is much different across the border. At Costco US, just about anything can be returned anytime for a full refund. Costco Mexico will fight you every step of the way, even if they told you during the purchase it was returnable. Of course, most Mexican stores seem to have a zero return policy, but expectations are higher when dealing with an American brand that has a published return policy. I am very cautious about what I buy at Costco Mexico.

There is a reason so many Mexicans go to the US for their shopping.
