Diane, I am pointing out the obvious, the hotel still has issues, the people that run it are very nice but the rooms are very small, i had friends
staying there once and there are as dave said, issues. But let eddie decide where they stay, i am merely trying to make their stay as comfortable and
nice as possible.

A question was asked, and I answered it---there are choices.
And yes, you should promote your mother's business. But perhaps the best way to do that is not by running down the businesses of others in your
community.

I just got back from BA and would recommend that you bring just about everything you need, especially specialty alcohol (is Kahlua REALLY a specialty
in Mexico?). fishing tackle, decent veges especially lettuce. We are getting great cantaloupe over here for 2.5 pesos each right now, so the market
must be flooded with them. Look for some on your way down. Very common for the veges, especially the avos and the melons to be overripe to the point
of rotting. This was in a solid week of searching. Groceries arent cheap there, either. Totopos are the national brand types.
Of the two restaurants I tried, I would favor 3 Hermano(a)s. But we had a killer meal from Brenda, the wife of Manuel the fisherman, when we returned
from fishing with him. Word is that they will be opening a restaurant/bar in about a month. More options is better, IMO.
Still, the beauty of the area far outweighs the minor inconveniences that are not inconveniences at all to many.

I have a friend coming down over Christmas. How should I describe the motel to him? I don't want to offend anyone? What kind of amenities does the
motel offer? I've only seen the place from the outside and a peek in a door from the street.

I have stayed there a couple of times during my ATV trips north. Nothing fancy, just the basics. BUT i was glad to have the room after a couple of
days on the road. And we always enjoy eating at the restaurant, I have always found the owners there to be very accommodating.
Some people might try to compare this hotel to areas with more tourists and more competition. Not fair. It was only a couple of years ago that this
area was relatively unknown. Tourism is just now starting to come in. I am sure the 5 star hotels will follow. but at the current time its just the
basics with the exception of playa Arce/Bondi.

Stay with Juan & Shari - they have a good track record and are active Nomads who have done lots to help many others here on the forum. If the
hotel owners (who supposedly read this forum) were to beome active members here more of us might warm up to them as well.
Just my two cents...

You misread the intent of my post - I never said that. Shari and Juan are known to all here on the forum and there are hundreds and hundreds of
posts/pictures/stories of happy campers and their experiences with them. There are only a few posts about the hotel and it appears that the few
reviews available offer at best a question mark. Going with Juan & Shari seems like a sure bet.
That is one of the advantages of being active on the forum and not just lurking. Not really sure why that seems like such a strange concept...

Whoa---this is getting really stupid and out of hand.
1. My advice to Sirena was because it is a small town and yes, there are people there who follow the forum and they talk, like they do in all small
towns.
2. Her mother's business can be promoted on its merits, and to promote it with negative statements about businesses of other members of the
community, IMHO, is not a wise thing to do---especially in a small Mexican village.
3. Even if it was not a small town, if I read someone promoting a business by talking someone else down, well, I would go elsewhere. Shari does not
do that and works hard for her business.
4. The hotel is a basic old-fashion Baja Hotel, good for some, and not for others.
5. Shari has worked very hard to promote her business and deserves her success---and Juan is one of the really good guides in town
6. There are a number of people in Baja, including business owners, who can speak some English, read some English but are not comfortable with
writing in English. I doubt they would ever join a forum such as this, but they do read it.
7. FYI, the owner of the hotel knows very little English, but some of his relatives know more, they do follow this forum, they do talk, but will
probably never become Nomads---that somehow sacred designation. And most the gringos I have met who stay at the hotel are not Baja Nomads ---
I have recommended Shari's business and Juan's business, but IMHO, it is really a shame that unless one has the English skills to join a forum where
they can promote their business, their accomplishments, etc., then they deserve less consideration.
It really is a matter of what one wants, expects, etc., and having English as a first language in a Spanish speaking country as a
consideration-----well, I guess it will always be that way. Many gringos will seek out those with whom they share a culture and language.
Yes, Bajagringo, Juan and Shari are good people with well deserved businesses, but there are others in that town that deserve some promotion----they
just don't have the English skills.
Diane and off my soap box, and outta of this thread. Sirena, take the advice for what it is worth, or not---it is your choice.

recommendation and I gave my opinion, as you are free to give yours.

Diane, I think you are absolutely right and hit it right on the head. As a family member Serena has a different responsibility than a tourist making a
comment about a Baja accommodation. Shari and Juan have done a great job promoting their business, and deservedly so. I don't recall them ever saying
anything negative about a competing enterprise in their promotion. I'm sure that Serina meant no disrespect of the other motel in town but she
shouldn't have made a negative remark about them.
Considering her youth and passion for all things Baja I would give her a pass on this one but hope that she recognizes her position as a family member
of a business and that what she says in a public forum will be scrutinized.
Personally, I can't wait to get back to Asuncion and I'd be willing to bet that if Juan and Sheri can't accommodate me they will refer me to their
amigos at the other motel in town.....

There are often personal squables in small towns that go beyond the "normal" business competition.
Let's remember that we can't know all the details.
I have seen most of Shari's rentals and have encountered her wonderful hospitallity when we first arrived in town. Her rental are the best
accomodations that I know of in Asuncion. Shari and Juan are doing a great job and I'm very happy for them.
I have never stayed in the hotel but I do like knowing there is an option.
I have eaten in the Tres Hermanos restaurant many times (same owner as the hotel) and have enjoyed their food and Gloria's attention.
I have also eaten Juan's abalone, Shari's french toast waffles, Sirena's sushi, grilled fish, fried pulpo, etc and I am drooling as I type.
Asuncion is growing quickly and as the economy picks back up, there will be more need for all of the businesses in town and more yet.
My only regret is that this economy and my kids' schedules will prevent me from celebrating the holidays with my Asuncion family; we miss you all.
