I just want to state something that I find troubling and it only pertains to the person(s) who have in the past made derogatory statements regarding
an eating establishment in Baja California owned by someone I consider my family and who I love as my family. You should not correct anyone for
something you have done in the past. I did not jump down your/their throat for what you said and you should not have jumped down the throat of the
person who made a comment here. That person’s comment was pretty innocent if you ask me. Remember Baja Nomad is also a community and some of us in
here have friends or relatives who own restaurants in Baja California.

Hola amigos....just a couple points I'd like to make here. First off, thanks for your support and kind words amigos. We have worked very hard to
create an atmosphere of comfort for our clients. Our rentals also have occasional issues like leaky taps, water problems sometimes, bugs, etc., but we
try to address them asap and do the best we can.
Regarding accomodation critiques... what some people find adequate, others find downright awful...so it's always a personal opinion pertaining to
one's comfort zone.
Second....the business is Juan's business and as a good wife, I help him with it....it's a famly affair and I appreciate Sirena's help as well.
third...we are happy to promote local businesses here that are well run, cooperative and supportive of our endeavours. Unfortunately ...not using any
names....some businesses here who dont want any competition, have gone out of their way to destroy our business, make up lies about us, tell people
who ask that they dont know us or where we are, report me to immigration (guess they didnt know I am mexican) and generally make our lives
difficult.....typical small town stuff....but it does get tiring. This is not restricted to us either but has also happened to other mexican small
business people trying to open competing businesses. So if we dont promote all the businesses here....there is a reason. As I said, we will promote
businesses where our clients will be treated well...after all, it's in our best interest to steer visitors to places where they are likely to have
good experiences.
And lastly...try to remember when you were 20 folks. Sirenita is just learning the ropes and you can bet we had a lengthy discussion about ethics,
politics, internet protocol and general tips on positive ways deal with issues. She is a smart girl but also brutally honest and she has yet to learn
that honesty perhaps is not the best policy in some delicate scenarios. I asked her to cover for us while we took a much needed vacation and thank her
for that. Most of us are human and have made blunders in the heat of the moment that we think better of in the morning. Life is a learning
experience..thanks again for your understanding.

Thanks Shari for the post. I appreciate more now of what you go through to operate a business there. From all reports you bend over backwards with
your hospitality. You raised an honest, loyal, independent, strong willed young lady and should be proud. It is good you took the time to make this a
teachable moment. Life is full of them...
I hope to get down to BA soon.

An honest critique whether good or bad isn't personal...
It's just the cost of doing business.
Get over it.

I see Sirenita's post is edited.
I thought she did a good job of "manning the fort", contacting potential customers, sharing information....... with that one little slip up. It may
be the truth, and she was probably trying to find a delicate way of saying it. Live and Learn, Girl.....
The downside of being on a forum with 2500 active members with a daily reading count of probably 500 is that if/WHEN you mess up, you WILL be informed
of your transgression!
It is hard to be in business in a small community and to know something negative about a competitor/other business and to find an acceptable way to
share that information without sounding like a bad-mouth.
Moving on~
I hope the OP's have a WONDERFUL time wherever they stay in BA!

I guess I failed to communicate my thoughts properly and you did not get it. Well Dave, I am over it as you say. Thank you for your thoughts on the
matter.

I will always have a soft spot for Gloria's motel and restaurant. Met them close to 10 years ago before Asuncion was 'discovered'. It was dark and a
bit scary when we arrived all dusty and hungry. And they welcomed us like family. They are the nicest people you could ever hope to meet.
Wish them the best in partaking in Asuncion's new prosperity. Hope that nomads will consider giving them some of your business. There's room for
everyone to make a profit. Their price is right but you get what you pay for.

Shari,
The couple of times I have been there she would fix just about anything I asked for. What is the latest on the motel they were building just outside
of town?

the new fancy motel is on hold...and has been stopped for a year now. Lots of rumours about why but I was told it will be finished when the economy
picks up. Looks like another smaller hotel is also being started on the other side of the road and a bit closer to town...a local ejido project that
will depend on money that has been promised to the ejiditarios for the sale or rent of their land around here....we'll see what happens.

It took us a few weeks to figure out when Gloria was open.
I finally pegged the lunch time and enjoyed her pescado empanizado and oven-roasted chicken.
Gloria would offer a number of entrees and often lose me in the translation due to my limited spanish, she would then take me into the kitchen to see.
That's great news that they're near the campground. Maybe you (Shari) could help her print up a menu and hours she's open and post it at your
"locations" in trade for a few free meals or something ?

I have all the restaurants listed on an info sheet in all our rentals.
This has been one of the problems with Gloria's restaurant is that her hours are hit and miss. I figure her enlish speaking sons could help her with
a menu if she wanted one.
