Best weather and fishing?
Who has the best weather and fishing?
I'm looking for reports to help me plan my trip over Christmas.
And try not to BS it up to much please.

Yes, it might be.
But I guess I should have clarified that I'm looking for info about the Baja Peninsula.
And considerably south of Playas de Tijuana.

Has anyone checked the round trip airfare to Maui lately? Incredibly expensive.

Señor Fishbuck, since you are now using English I will be glad to help. If you can get to the southland you will enjoy 80s during the day 70s at
night, some breezes and lots of good fishing for sierra, dorado and tuna right here in Palmas Bay. Drive down or fly to La Paz or Los Cabos -- lots of
inexpensive places to stay, good prices for boats, bait, booze, etc.

I do love Palmas. But I think I'll need to save that for next year.
I think I will drive. So I guessing I won't get much past Mulege in the time I have available.
I am just trying to get a feel for what the weather is like. I know it's tough because the wind can come up and blow for days in a row.

December can have some very fine fishing with great weather and I have seen times where it has blown for 21 straight days with nary a boat going out
in the Santa Rosalia Area. The best thing to do is to watch Bouyweather closely, especially if you have a subscription and can get the advance
forecasts. You have the right idea to remain flexible because sometimes there is a significant difference between the Sea of Cortez side and the
Pacific side at Asuncion or La Bocana. Many times when we have a week blow, I load up and go to the other side.
Now that may not hold completely true in Dec, but is a sure bet in Oct. and Nov.
The best tides for yellowtail fishing on our side is the 13-20th of Dec and agian starting the 27th-3rd of Jan. The 23-27th are pretty weak tides
and fishing may be pretty slow on those days.
The fish are running really large again this year and we have had several in the 40 lb category and a lot over 30 which necessitates a minimum of 50
lb line and 60 or 80 is much better.
This week is a killer as far as tides and current are concerned but the wind is blowing hard and will probably not settle down till at least Sunday.

I would strongly suggest Mulege or Loreto Area. With the Photos that Pompano has been posting of the Sierra it looks as if the Fishing will be Great.

Although weather's been the best for a December in years, It's blowing all this week. The last couple of years we were lucky to get three or four
boating days in the whole month.
There are, as usual, just a scattering of sierra. Sometimes you can catch a couple, sometimes not.
Catch of the month has been mostly small yellowtail and roosterfish. Good light tackle fishing. There should be some big yellowtail about now, weather
permitting.
Winter fishing in Loreto is a better deal for locals who can sit out the windy days. Tough bet for a short term visit.

it's a crap shoot...while it's been blowing over on the gulf side...it's been beautiful over on the pacific all week...shorts weather with light winds
in the afternoon even. The water is around 70 and we've been swimming these days and loving it...juan is out looking for the last of the tuna today
and still lots of yellowtail around. We typically have less wind over here than the gulf in december and the northerlies dont get into here much.

If it's sun you seek then Maui is too much of a gamble. Cabo (and Baja) consistently has a lot more sunshine.

I would really like to fly down. I haven't checked the plane yet to see if it's available. And there's some paper work and stuff. And the $1000.

Well, Fishbuck says he wants to pull on some monster yellowtail so there is only one place on the peninsula where that happens in the wintertime with
any great degree of regularity and that is the Santa Rosalia area. I have caught a lot of yellows on the pacific side but I keep asking my self why
it is possible to catch a 50 lb fish over there with 20 lb. line and here you will get an empty cooler if you even try to use anything less than 50 lb
line for 25 lb. fish. We normally have to use 60-80 until they start showing up in the deeper water on the surface and then we are able to drop down
to 40.
Now the wind is another story all together.
