Propane fill spots......advice?
Leaving next week for 5 week in BCN and BCS. This will be my first trip in a vehicle that has propane onboard. We are good for about 5-7 days between
fills but will need to fill up several times during the trip. We have the RV style fill point, not the standard 20lb tanks. From what I understand,
many Propane dealers have only the equipment to fill stationary tanks. Is this true? Can anyone tell me where we can get our onboard tank filled??
Thanks all!

If you can be more specific about where you will need refill I can pinpoint better for you. In our RV we have been to Cabo many times with no problems
with Propane refills, available in all major towns here. Have made month long trips 20# tank only 1 refill needed, so as I don't know what your exact
need are it is difficult to be more precise.

Our itinerary is pretty open. That's why I ask. We may need to base some of our plans on when and where we can get propane. As I mentioned, we don't
have the standard 20lb tanks. We have a built in propane system with an external fill connection on our Volkswagen Westy. From what I have heard not
all locations have the ability to fill this style of tank.
I'm glad to hear you have had no troubles. We will of course fill whenever we can, just like the petrol tank, but I'm concerned about running out and
having all our food spoil etc...

You can get fills for the direct RV connection in El Rosario, Santa Rosalia and La Paz for sure.
I believe most of the other locations will have the right connector also.
If you are in an RV park, the propane tank trucks all have the required connector on board.

Perfect!! Is it possible to just locate a delivery truck and get a fill and pay on the spot?

That will depend on your location.
RV Parks in places like La Ventana, Los Barilles and Cabo will have scheduled deliveries.
If you are in one of these places, you are all set.
If you are near one of these places, you can find out the delivery date and may be able to work out having them come to you for a few bucks.
Otherwise you will have to go tot them.
Are you sure you're tank will only last 1 week ?
A 7 gallon tank will last at least 3-4 weeks if used for cooking and propane refig alone.
And that's with the large refrig in our camp trailer.

Well, 5-7 days is about what I figure up here, but that involves using the propane heater at night. Take the heater out of the equation and I really
don't know how long we can go. Perhaps much longer! This is our first extended trip in this vehicle so it will be a learning experience. Good to hear
how long you can run on a single tank. We may be able to do the same. If so, then filling up in the bigger cities will be more than adequate!
I'll be tracking our usage for sure. Thanks for all the info!

You can fill at the Gas Pasa plant, a mile or so north of Santa Rosalia 8-4 most days except sunday and holidays. Drive in and counter-clockwise
around the compound. The fill point is on the side of the center compound where you see the office ahead and slightly to the right.

Here are a few
El Rosario.....Just after you make the corner on your left
San Quintin....About 2 miles south of town on your left
GN....Just before you make the turn into town....on your right
Santa Rosalia...before "the hill" on your left
this is all heading south
Hope the spelling police don't have a heart attack

Why not go to a hose mfg and get a hose that will connect to the Westy and to 20lb tank. Take a 20# as back-up and your set. If the gas is that
important and your worried about getting a refill take it with you. Most the surf spots are a ways to major towns. and you'll be giving up surf time
to get gas. Most of the surf camps will have people that can answer most of your questions if you ask.

Propane
Here is a link to most of the Propane location stops in Baja.
http://math.ucr.edu/ftm/bajaPages/BajaRoadPages/General/Auto...
also add these locations to this older list
El Rosario (North side of Mex 1, center of town)
Loreto (west side of Mex1 between Loreto and Nopolo),
LaPaz (the new Auto Propane south of LaPaz on the west side Mex 1)
Also most small delivery Propane pumper trucks will fill you up.
My van is propane powered and with a little planning it is not a problem.
