This is a first. While driving south on hwy 19 (2 lane hwy about 20 mi north of Cabo) we happened upon a long line of cars going real slow. We thought
it was an accident or a super slow truck. After awhile when it was our turn to pass we saw what was causing the slowdown. It was two bicyclists riding
side by side with a vehicle riding behind them providing protection, in essence blocking the entire southbound lane. There were plenty of places these
riders could of pulled over to let the long line of cars pass but they were just riding along looking at the pacific and chatting, seemingly oblivious
to the holdup they were causing. I was amazed at their brashness.
Curious if anyone else has ever seen this and if you think they had a right to their leisurely bike ride or were they being selfish for blocking the
only lane going south?.
I've seen it Another good one is when you come around a curve doing normal
speed and there they are! I'm surprized we have never heard of some PO'ed drunk running them over, or has someone?
Attn bicycle people.
Riding a bike down the highway is stupid and dangerous. It causes alot of problems because the road is just barely wide enough for 2 cars to pass each
other.
It was never designed for bicycles.
Please don't do it.

this should e a good thread that will bring out the types that believe roads belong to cars and cars only
all you tense gringos should take a chill pill and learn to go with the flow instead of letting your blood pressure boil when life's variety slows you
down.
They do that here occasionally on the Bufadora road. The height of arrogant selfishness. It makes you want to develop road rage and grind them into
the undercarriage of your car and I would if my insurance covered it.

Do you think the difference of opinions will be settled this time?
Seriously, side by side is a bit much. Even in a car if we are sightseeing and going slower than the flow, we pull over and let the traffic go by.
They should do the same thing.
Now a major road race is different and when that happens, I believe the riders should be given the right away as it is only temporary.

Those bicycle riders along the highway are kind of like me wanting to embed sound in people's posts with their permission, huh!
I think most wanted to grind me with the undercarriage of their footwear.
It isn't the riders alone. It's the A-Hole who runs interference with the car. These three are taking four miles of road, with no opportunity to
pass, as their own at uphill bicycle speed and they don't pull off to let the traffic by.
I would venture a guess that the car driver knows somebody which, in his mind, makes him above law and decency. Unfortunatly, that's probably a
fact.
The only time I've ever experienced anything like it was in Guatemala when they had a race on the Pan American highway. We plodded along behind them
for a good 5 hours towards Guatemala City. Rows of people lined the highway wanting to get a glimpse of the riders.
I even gave a ride to a drunk newspaper reporter who apparently was celebrating before the winners were announced.
..it's gotta be the single most dangerous crap on the road..even when they are riding single file...lemme see, when i have a big ol eighteen wheeler
coming at me from the other direction, on a cliff with no shoulder and a couple bikers in between us, who am i gonna take out?....a couple of days
ago, there were two bicyclists here in mulege, both towing trailers with small children in them....one trailer had two tiny toddlers in it...they were
packed to the hilt, headed down hwy 1...cool, huh?
A number of years back heading South From Mexicali, I had the unpleasant surprise of coming up behind the Mexicali-San Felipe Bicycle Race, Rally or
whatever it was called. Seemingly, MILES of riders with Police Escort.
It was a LONG drive.
Needless to say, if I were EVER on a Jury involving someone who had run down a Cycler, it would be tough for me to vote guilty. Maybe impossible.

See many biciclists in the winter month coming through Loreto om Hw1. Since you mention a car behind them for protection, aren't you sure they weren't
racers on their regular training route and slowing down for a rest ? And for them, it's the only road to train on. Don't remember ever seeing
recreational bikers riding side by side with a car behind them.
A doctor just got convicted in L.A. for taking down some biciclists with his car because they were irritating him riding side by side.

They stopped at the bar Ana's there was one young boy riding behind the mom and two young boys riding behind the dad. The Dad downed a quart of beer
and then ordered another to go. Hopefully, they planned to stay put on the beach. Looking for the next update from somewhere south, hope they arrive
safely.
A judge issued the sentence Friday for 60-year-old Christopher Thompson. He was convicted of mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and other charges
for the assault on July 4, 2008.
Prosecutors say he had argued with the cyclists before slamming on his brakes in front of them in Brentwood's Mandeville Canyon. One cyclist who went
through the car window suffered broken teeth, cuts and had to have his nose reattached.
Thompson testified that he and other residents were upset that some cyclists rode alongside each other on the narrow five-mile street.
The court has been deluged with letters from cyclists saying a harsh sentence would send a strong message to motorists.

A 60 year old doctor, eh? Presumably an intelligent, mature, disciplined man.
The message to bicyclists is, watch out, there's no telling the result of anger you're causing. This guy did what probably the vast majority of
motorists think of doing.
