Fishing/camping laws
It is awesome to find this group of peple!
I am planning a trip and have some questions. I am traveling by car and by jetski as well from San Felipe to Cabo. We will be a group of about 8 and I
will have a 2-sling spear gun with me to use while snorkeling...not SCUBA/compressor involved. What we catch will be consumed that same day with a
fire on the beach. Are there laws that keep me from using or even being in possesion of a speargun? Are there areas that keep me from fishing but
still allow me to travel through with my speargun? Can we camp on any beach we please? Can anybody point me in the right direction?
I currently have maps that indicate "natural reserve" areas so I know not to fish there...right? But if I have my speargun with me, does that break
the law?
Thanks a lot!

As I sat there staring at the peaceful Sea of Cortez, I realized what I already knew. A place more beautiful I will never know. The Baja, a place that
overwhelms my senses with beauty; a place that cradles my soul.

Just make sure you have a Mexican fishing license to go with that speargun.

just leave the lobster, abalone and shellfish alone....it's always a good idea in areas like ours that have active vigilancia...coast patrols...to
talk to them and explain what you will be doing...just fishing for food.
Another little tip is that if you are beach camping...it is wise not to offer beer to the fishermen/locals who may show up at your camp...once they
start drinkin, lets just say...they are in for the long run! kinda like feedin a stray dog.....not to be disrespectuful of my brothers....I'm just
sayin....

The Loreto Marine Preserve:
Yes, you cannot harvest any sea creatures, and you cannot go to the beaches as they are gated and guarded.

If you want to play strictly by the regs,
as posted no crustaceans, including clams,
but which are regularly collected by gringos,
the popular fish Cabrilla, was always on the prohibited
list, reserved for Mex Commerical fishermen,
if fihing no license for shore fishing,
you probably know, no need for boat permit,
that was elimnated a couple yrs. ago,
http://www.mexfish.com has some
Mex Fish Regs

Loreto Marine Park
Jet Skis are prohibited at the islands in the Marine Park. Spear fishing is prohibited throughout the park. Although some popular access spots have
been fenced and gated, others remain open.
Cabrilla...there was once a prohibition against taking cabrilla. No longer.

Shari has it SO right about feeding strays...er...well...you know. Camp on the beach just about anywhere and often (or not) someone will come by to
pick up the "rent"...$5.00 seems to be the usual. Check out time 12 noon.

I believe there is a mandatory tequila, bonfire and skyrocket regulation that must be abided!

NO spearfishing allowed at all in La Bocana. Probably 'cause there is no way to effectively protect the area, they take it very, very, very seriously
- the local fishermen are overly protective of the waters off the coast. I have tried to get permission to snorkel but they are too wary.....

Spear Fishing?
Pointe_Final
Hands down!
Go into the cluster of homes there, stay to your right. Theres a dirt rode going over that hill (next to a old house. If chained , ask around and
you'll get in. Very nice primitive camping there. You'll find it a wow factor once you get under.
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.
