Motel near SY / Border
I tried a site search (to no avail)
Looking for recommendations for a clean budget motel near the border (US side) with safe / secure parking for a pickup and travel trailer.
Southbound in 2 weeks.
Thx.

I have stayed at the Vagabond Inn in Chula Vista dozens of nights over the past few years, many of them with a boat in tow. Plenty of parking space
for a boat or travel trailer and no security problems. The Vagabond Inn is about 4 blocks off Highway 5 and ten minutes from the border. They cater
and give a discount to folks with a Baja connection. Last time I was there the rate was around $50 US per night with the discount. WIFI and a small
refrigerator in the rooms.
Vagabond Inn
230 Broadway
Chula Vista, Ca 91910

If you call to make a reservation, mention your Baja connection to get the discount.

Thanks !
I stayed at the Motel 6 Chula Vista last year.... not bad, but I don't remember they had parking for extended rigs....
Anyway, I decided to try the Vagabond Inn this time, thanks, Bill. Their web page says parking for semi truck & trailer rigs, so there is sure to
be room for an F350 and vintage Airstream.
Thanks to all 3 of you for the assist. Always great folks, help, and resources here on Nomad.

Best Western Chula Vista
We stayed at the Best Western when we drove down. Nice motel with wi-fi and free breakfast. I just checked and rooms are $53. It would be a good
choice for your next trip.

Just "Not Bad?" I guess they've improved since I stayed there about four years ago. At that time, the lady behind the counter had green chevrons
painted over her eye lids and there was a Harley parked on the carpet inside the lobby and, as they say, if it doesn't leak oil, it's not a Harley.
[or, is that a Volkswagon? I don't remember]
Turned out the managers and half the welfare assisted tenants were speed freaks who had a loud pool party until 3:30 AM.
I had to shake out all of my luggage so as to get rid of the c-ckroaches that wanted to come home with me.
We had a long discussion here about this in the past. FDT's wife, Simone, used to work there and corroborated all my claims.
Since that time, I discovered the Vagabond right around the corner. That's still my choice.

You might try the La Quinta in Pamona. It's about 20 - 30 minutes from the border. They have a big parking lot, several places to eat and shop
nearby. I started staying here a few years ago (going to/from Baja), I've been ripped-off at some of the other places listed above- usually I just
had stuff stolen out of my trailer or off my roof top carrier. When I had stuff stolen out of my cargo trailer at the S. Y. Motel 6, the staff said
"That's too bad, you should have taken your new compost toilet into your room at night if it was important to you." The local cops never even
showed-up to take a report- they said rip-offs were so common there that I would have to come into the station to make-out a report for my insurance
company. One funny note, the La Quinta was full, so I stayed at the S.Y. Motel 6 last Sept.: I had two unmarked boxes of womens' products stolen off
the top of my truck (I was delivering supplies last fall to Mulege after the hurricane). Can you imagine the shock when the gang banger tweakers
opened the boxes back at their headquarters?!
