truck tags
I am unable to import my diesel pickup and it never leaves mexico. Any hints as how to make it legal? It seem like I remember a mention of an
article (17 maybe) in mexican law that covers the expired tag problem. Maybe I remember wrong...thats always possible.
I tried to find it in the archives with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mex Law
Articulo ciento seis in some cases has been referred to cover vehiculos which were current and now are not due to the inability to return to the home
territory. In some/most cases the interpretation is that you are allowed 5 years to comply if you have an FM-3 and all other aspects of the vehicle
and your personal documents are correct. I carry the law Articulo 106 with me and my current FM-3 or a copy and make the argument if my reg is
invalid. It has worked everytime.
OnaPafa
In cities such as La Paz you may visit the local OnaPafa office and request a OnaPafa sticker which is a Baja Regional Legal Registration which costs
about $1500 pesos up front and $20pesos a month per driver to be legal on municipal streets. The local OnaPafa registration sticker is not legal on
Federal Properties so you may be restricted from crossing the Sea of Cortez on a Ferry or parking inside parking lots of Federal offices.
US Law
If your vehicle is in Baja (on the Frontier outside of TJ/Tecate) or a remote ranch-land in the US and unable to return to a DMV in the good ol' USA,
you may use the CA DMV white form-Declaration of Facts and complete the statement portion which states your case and why you are unable and should not
be required to comply with certain restrictions you can request a deviation or exemption. I have successfully used this form for many USA vehiculos
in Baja to be legal with the CA DMV. Though you must pay the past due Reg fee. You may also use the South Dakota vehicle registration method.
Each of these cases are covered by law and may be referenced in their relevant code books.

Why? I know the law used to say no diesels, but I thought they changed that.
Anyway, here's a story...not to be confused with a suggestion. When the no-diesel rule was in place, the Micros, those nasty little local busses
that cause most of the wrecks on city streets, would be registered with a gas engine. With registration in hand, they would swap the engine to
diesel. Reason was, diesel fuel used to be dirt cheap.

I will check on the import law, importation would be the best if possible.
