Oxygen Canisters/ Breathing Equipment
Some friends of mine have a time share week coming up soon in Cabo. The wife has severe breathing difficulties and uses oxygen. The have a machine
that refills the canisters. They usually fly, but recently ran into problems with the TSA on a domestic flight. So, they decided she would fly, but he
was leaving early and driving down to meet her at the airport when she arrives. He intends to carry the equipment with him in his truck and asked me
if i thought he might have a problem, either at the border or at the check points. Frankly, while I don't think so, I thought maybe some Nomads may
have experience with transporting such equipment and can give a tip or two. Thanks.

If they are carrying oxygen bottles, it is not the TSA. Oxygen bottles have always been banned from both carry-on and baggage compartments. It's an
FAA regulation. They are a major safety hazard and cannot be shipped by air. If she uses a portable oxygen concentrator, there are many that are
approved for air travel. The airlines have a list of approved devices. There is no problemo taking either kind across the border in a car/truck.
Empty oxygen cannisters can be shipped by air in checked baggage, but you have to show they are empty.
p.s. Severe breathing difficulties and airplanes do not mix well. The cabin altitude will go up to 8,000 feet.

Thanks. She already knows how affected she is when flying. However, she's prepared to tough it out on a 2 hour flight.

Is there perhaps a medical facility that can assist with her requirements while she is in Cabo thus avoiding two seperate means of travel? Surely some
folks in Cabo have the same issues.

Thought the same. However, hubby and his best bud have never made the drive. After years of extolling the great Mex 1 adventure to them, I'm assuming
this is a little of this and a little of that.

Well then I guess this makes sense now. Hope they have a good trip with lots to see and do along the way it is a lot of fun this time of year....
