i'll give up a secret spot for you guys to drool over. another Nomad turned me on to it so i feel i should pass it on to others..... the spot is
called "Blue Moon's" because it goes off so rarely, but when it does........
now quit asking about "el otro lado, por favor!"

I don't know man, there is a sweet little peak right in front. Might need a Jet Ski for a tow in though...

Gonzaga road trip
We are attempting to firm up the dates on our trip to Gonzaga. Presently we plan to cross at Mexicali on or about the 17th of June. Returning two
weeks, or so, later.
Looking for travel companions for the congo line. We drive to San Felipe, gas and lunch, down to Gonzaga Bay. Our compadre dropped out, left early for
Gonzaga, couldn't take the rain any longer, Said that the wind and sand have benn rather uncomfortable, we will see.

Thanks Dizzy, look forward to reading your first hand report. MY friends at Alfonsinas tell me that the wind has drifted the sand up to the sides of
the trailers. Something I have never seen before. Thank you senor Rodrigues.
Additionally we plan on a second trip in the fall, probably November, after our return from Romania. Believe me we will need it.
You seem to have some connection with the medical field. Are you aware of any planned dental outreach to the Gonzaga area?
Thanks,
Jim D.

Jim,
I am a Paramedic in the southern AZ area. Not aware of any dental outreach program. I am sure if you post it...their are other Nomads that would
know...keep me posted on the Fall trip..I am in the middle of my racing season(alcohol fuel altered..."Medicine Man"( but after the Finals in
October..I want to go back down and relax/fish....heard alot from CJ about the Rancho Grande area...we have permission to camp near Alfonsinas OR we
will go south to Beluga or might check out Costilla(sp?)

Thanks Dizzy,
my son is a dentist and while going through dental school worked extensively in Mexicali and San Felipe doing free dental clinics. He and my wife
worked with a church in Mexicali who set up the location and advised the locals of the free dental work.
He has a successfull practice and still talks of doing some dental mission work, thought it might be an opportunity for him to come down to Gonzaga
with us and do a clinic.
Beluga is nice, never seems to be anybody there, which is good. Talked to the owner several times, he retired from PG&E and set up the camp. Very
nice people. They had a small store there, not sure if still in operation.
The fall trip is goig to be a strech, we will see, I will keep you posted.
Good luck on the racing circuit!

Just returned from Gonzaga...our trail leader chose to take the short cut thru the agricultural area..LOTS of construction use the Toll Road
Construction also in progress for the northern sections of Mex 5, but its wide and fairly well graded
Watch the vados(dips) between San Felipe and Puertecitos
the new road south is very nice, even has a couple of HUGE pull outs on the Sea of Cortez side, and "exits" if you would like to explore the coves
..but watch out for BIG rocks in the road as you go thru the mountain cuts...some places you will have to use the opposing lane to go
around...interesting that the "watch out for falling rock" graphic sign is AFTER the falling rocks
also use caution after the 19 mile mark, as the road is fiinshed past there, but is blocked by an unmarked 4 foot high berm of gravel...NOT marked by
anything prior
the next 6-7 mile is wide, well graded road then the OLD Gonzaga Bay road returns...we used the parallel "snad" track wherever we could...a little
"whoopy" but way smoother than the washboard
the new Rancho Grande market is 3 times as big as before and well stocked
the attached restaurant was OK
the blading of the desert from Rancho Grande to the beach HAS created a huge mess....North to Alfonsinas is fine and south near Bleuga and Sacrificio
is also OK
we stayed at Beluga (no changes), but due to the wnd, moved to the Sacrificio cabins for the windblock and HOT indoor showers
a couple of military checkpoints, but polite, courteous and hassle free
have a great time..weather forecast looks like low to mid 90's and 70's at night with light wind (our 1st nite at Beluga was 40 knots at least and we
got sand in places we didn't know we had places)
going back late october
see ya
cheers Mike
