Which is the best Ensenada Liquor Store?

Mostly interested in tequila. I usually hit the gigante or other supermercados. Anyone know of a wholesale liquor store in Ensenada?
Looking for the best prices (not on Lopez Mateos).

Thanks

Best prices on liquor and beer will generally be at the big grocery stores, Calimax....Soriana's....Comercial Mexicana...etc. That's where the bars get liquor. Beer is delivered.
I think they're just starting to get into liquor distributors for restaurants. I spoke to one at Sharky's.

Ask Dave. He knows.

Seriously though, Costco might be a good bet. There has been a few threads on liquor and beer deals in the past.

ken..i think they definitely have a better selection of tequilas than the stateside stores...one time, while shopping at the cabo costco with some buddies we noticed one of those food taster guys in the booze section..checked on him closer and discovered he was offering tequila samples...we stood around there and he just kept pouring...had to take a cab home and return for our car the next day...whew!

most of the wineries in guadalupe valley carry tequila for tasting/buying -- i think many of the wineries also own tequila businesses -- tequilas I tried at wineries were better than mass-produced varieties carried in supermarkets, and prices seemed about right for quality.

i think the supermarkets carry mass-produced lines of tequila. i have not seen where you can buy the better tequilas. i know some people that bring personal purchases of tequilas from Jalisco, and they spend upwards of a couple hundred dollars per liter, and they taste very fine,... but I am a cheapskate and stick with liquors that cost under 50 per liter.

better tequilas are pricy, and from you question it sounds like you want cheap liquor, and cheaper the better, so go to the supermarket and buy cheapest on basis of peso per ounce/proof :lol:

hope someone can inform where to buy micro-batch tequilas in TJ or ensenada................

For tasting, you might try this place http://masaassassin.blogspot.com/2010/04/el-agave-gastro-bar... and I'm sure they can direct to places to buy. There is also quite a store that sells pretty much nothing but tequila in the Los Globos area, on Coral Street.

Yeah...I was going to mention that place, but didn't know how to begin without getting someone lost.

No...not the cheap stuff. I stick with the 100% agave reposados or anejos. But I do not spend more than $40-50/bottle. Micro tequilas would be nice to try. Thanks for all the responses. I might have to spend a whole day focused on tequila

Great stuff!!!!!!

I can't stand Tequila. Too much in a Margarita ruins the drink as far as I'm concerned.
Go back to your Sewer Bar, Goat. Dip your cup into the frothy vat and pretend you're drinking Brandy Alexanders.

The big box stores mentioned, as well as WalMart will carry some high end tequilas, but as far as I know, there are few, if any merchants, in the Ensenada area, that could provide a variety of top notch tequilas that would even equal what BevMo carries in the states. To me, the high end tequila market is much like the the high end wine market in the states. It's more boutique than mass market, and you can spend a bunch of time in Jalisco traveling from distillery to distillery just to taste their product. And, of course, in that setting, prices are not going to be competitive. And the demand for high end tequila in Ensenada is just not all that great.

I don't know about that, Howard. There's a lot of money here and any proud Papa at his daughter's Quinceañera wouldn't hesitate a moment to buy the very best to serve his friends.

I was thinking more about the tourists, Dennis. That's where the volume would be. Yokels disembarking a Carnival ship would scurry over to buy some Cuervo, 'cause they bought it in Mexico. Of course, there is a local market for fine stuff. Just have to wonder who takes advantage of the market. And, yes. they could probably find a bottle of something at WalMart that would impress.
