New ATM fees????
I see reports on another board ( expat),that folks are saying new fees ( IVA) are being tacked onto ATM withdrawals and some banks are not accepting
foreign bank cards,anyone heard of this new policy?

I went to Banamex today and used their ATM, I was charged 25 pesos for a" comision/ fee" and 4 pesos for IVA, this is in addition to the 7.5 peso
charge that you have to accept to use the machine...... I talked to a CPA today and he said they are all going to do it......The only recourse we have
is to get as many pesos as possible so you don't need to use it as often....

I used my B of A card at a Santander bank today and noticed a new screen explaining I was being charged 0.00 for the withdrawal, which is what it
always has been. But the screen was new to the process. So something is going on.

I just did a trip from the tip to TJ and yes there are new fees where they accept ATM and yes many places do not want to accept ATM or Visa of
American banks. It became quite an issue which no one had planned on though we survived, you can always find someone to take your card but you need to
use higher end places as those businesses that are smaller are opting out of accepting foreign electronic debit/credit due to costs I guess.
Bring cash.

Yup, HSBC machine charged me extra 22 pesos this time and only let me withdraw 3000 pesos Vs the 5000 I used to get

There are many Nomads, as well as other people who use their ATM withdrawls as proof of some sort of residency for their FM cards. I am sure this will
affect them immensely.

good reason to get a mexican bank account....bancomer opens accounts with just an FMT. Some people link it to a paypal account and you can make
deposits that way. Are these new ATM fees just for foreign bank cards or apply to local cards as well?

Sorry but Mx has not a lick of sense! How stupid! If they want tourist $'s they are doing everything to hobble the desire of those long timers who
have done so much to help the local communities. They took away the red carpet along time ago and now create so many obstacles that many will feel
insulted and not welcome there any more!

Full timers and long timers can't realistically avail themselves of the Costco solution. I absolutely agree with the idea that additional charges are
inimical to tourism. But, as one can find so many examples of abuses by big business all around the world, you can be absolutely sure that Mexican
banks won't give a culo de raton about any effect extra fees might have on tourism.

Mexico has been doing it's best to rid the tourist for the 30 years I have lived here.
this is the 2nd time in 30 years that they have f***** the dollar accounts.
They got rid of the hunters. the caravans, lots of the fishermen and now the rest will just stop coming for trying to turn dollars into pesos.
I used my ATM a few years ago in Costco and Home Depot in Ensenada. when I got my statement $78.00 dollars in fees have not used it since.
Not many tourist to get rid of now.
We just closed our dollar accounts here at the HSBC and my husband is Mexican. because of such a BS crap that you have to do. You can not put cash in
the bank and you can only get pesos from your dollars.
