Tijuana a Tucson.

So I have to make a trip to Tucson with a stop in TJ. Part of me wants to drive over and cross in Nogales. This is obviously not the fastest way but the more adventurous route. The question is if it is worth the trip. Anyone have an idea how long that will take? Any reason why I should or shouldn't do that route? If not, where should I cross. Since I will be near Blvd 2000, Tecate seems to be the logical answer. That's a little too easy. Thanks for any help.

I'm not going to be much help here, except to say that just for kicks, I'd drive all the way to Nogales on the Mexican side. Just me. Probably wrong advice. I'd rather deal with Pemex pump jockeys and the like, also noting the price of fuel will be lower. Sure, you'll rack up some extra mileage going that way, but from my perspective, I'm still in Baja.

I am thinking the same thing BH. From SD to Tucson is about 6 hours, I am worried that staying south of the border could double the time.

Take the 8 all the way to Tecate or Otay. Much faster, safer, more time at your destination. That said, I'd take the long road!:light:

It isn't signed for Campo or Tecate, but exit Hwy. 8 at the Buckman Springs Rest Stop exit (past Golden Acorn Casino, and before Pine Valley), go west to the highway for Campo... and the road to Tecate is a just a couple miles past Campo.

Cyanide41, the advise to drive down 8 to cross over into Tecate is a good one or if you want to have an adventure drive down 8 to where it says Calexico turn off and take it. Then cross into Mexicali, now make sure to stay all the way to the right as you start going from the USA into Mexicali border check. Once you clear the green light, hope you do not get red light but if you do it is harmless time check of just a few minutes (unless you have guns or ammo then your day and life will be a living nighmare). Remember check your vehicle if someone uses it for hunting or in law enforcement work. Now, once you clear Mexican Customs you will be taking the street going off towards the West and not the ones going directly east into downtown Mexicali. When you go off to the right heading westward you will come to a stop sign and will be turning right. Take the right and you will see the four lanes going north and south as you cross over them. Get to your left so you can go up the street and merge onto the roadway going south. You will then see signs saying Tijuana highway and be advised it is a toll road that goes through the mountains. You have some really good views on the high toll road as you go towards T.J. Very good road have taken it many times with my buddies that like to go that way to stop in La Rumorosa on the way to Tecate then T.J. it is a toll road all the way. Faster than going on 8 yes if you make the mistake of stopping at the Golden Acorn or La Posta Casinos,LOL. Be Safe and Have Fun while looking for More Fun. bajafun777

All these directions really confuse me. I read the post as Cyanide41 wanting to go from San Diego, to Tijuana, to Tucson. What does Tecate have to do with this unless the recommendation is to go via US I8?

If I was making the trip I would take Mex. 2 east (Toll Road) from Tijuana on through the south side of Mexicali and San Luis Rio Colorado. I think I would enter the US at Lukeville AZ as Mex 2 makes a large loop south before hitting Mex 15 to go to Nogales. From Lukeville head north on 85 through Ajo to I8 at Gila Bend.

Or take 86 from Ajo through some scenic country to Tucson.

If you stay on Mex 2, at Caborca you will have to go through customs and Immigration and turn north on Mex 15 at Santa Ana. Crossing at Nogales, I19 north to Tucson.

The problem is he doesn't say where he is starting... it sounds like Tijuana, but he says he has to make a stop in Tijuana... a stop coming from where?:

The BLVD. 2000 doesn't go into Tijuana, it starts/ ends 5 miles east of Otay Crossing on the Tecate Toll Hwy.

If he wants to avoid Mexicali and San Luis city traffic, he can cross north at Tecate and take Hwy. 94 east to Hwy. 8.

OR

Take Hwy. 2-D around the south side of Mexicali and go to San Luis R.C. and cross north there...

The location shown for him as a poster is San Diego, so I figure he might be starting from there.

Yah, I saw that but there are other Nomads with outdated signature info... ?? Why did he mention the Blvd. 2000 unless he is coming north from Ensenada? The Blvd. 2000 is a bipass to avoid Tijuana for those going between Tecate or Otay and Rosarito or Ensenada.

When he returns, let's hope he helps our curiosity!
