LOL you crack me up. Interest? No Mexican trusts banks with their savings money. They got burned bad last time around. No one. We did get a set of plates last week because we had the lucky number in the teller line, but that's about it. Less than 1% interest if you can get them to pay it to you. We had an interest account in writing and they (Bancomber) wouldn't pay- we even went to the bank president in TJ and and he apologized- but still wouldn't pay because the Rosarito branch manager wasn't authorized to authorize it...

I opened an account recently and didn't notice the interest rates. I was too stunned by the 83% interest rate on the Visa card offered and the stupendous 290 pesos a month it takes to conduct online banking! I just wanted to check my account without going into the bank (same thing I do on many other accounts for free).

Not to hijack your thread, but Bancomer is worse than Bank of America and that is saying a lot, I think.

My Bancomer Libreton (Peso) account pays around 0.2% interest (interest credited monthly).

Not really a useful amount :-) but it's actually higher than savings accounts at (for example) Wells Fargo which are a ludicrous 0.05% for balances under $25k.

The Bancomer online banking fees (and most other account fees) can be waived for private customers at the Preferred Customer Units.
