Wells Fargo ATM card

We have a BOA atm card and use Santander to get cash without being charged any fees. Our friends have a Wells Fargo atm card and I do not know what to tell them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

If they keep X amount in their accounts fees are waived with Wells Fargo. At least ours are.

Using a Wells Fargo checking account, we pay a flat $5.00 per withdrawal for international ATM's. Because of that I always try to take out the maximum, these days I go for 6000 pesos.

I have a schwab checking account. Since they have no bricks and motar buildings, they pay any and all atm fees from any bank.

I used to get 5000 with mine but as of Jan I can't find an ATM that lets me have more than 3000. Which machines do you use:?:

I used Banamex a couple of times in May. You might want to check with Wells Fargo to make sure they didn't change something on your account that reset your daily withdrawal limit to $300.

Just a couple of general suggestions--

Tell them to be sure and call Wells Fargo and tell them they will be traveling so the card is not shut down

Also, it is a good idea to check on the limit

With my B of A Debit Card I usually withdraw 6000.00 MP from the Santander ATM that is inside the Mulege Police Station ( when it is operating. Often it is out of order). When that happens I have to go to Bancomer and I get charged $5.00 on either end.

The other option with B of A is to open a Safesend account before you leave the U.S. With that, you get cash sent right to the Western Union office within two hours.

We recently opened a Citibank account when we were in the states, so that we could use Banamex ATMs with no fees. Turns out they don't charge a fee to use the ATM, but they do charge 3% foreign exchange fee. When I called them, they did confirm that they would charge the 3% FEF for ATM withdrawals. It was not a mistake.
Is there a foreign exchange fee to withdraw at Santender if using a BofA card?

I knew I could depend on my Nomad friends for help. Thanks for all the suggestions.

We live here nine months of the year and know the ends and outs of using BOA and if there is ever a problem with Santander we have our USAA atm card which will reimburse us up to fourteen world wide transactions per month from any ATM machine.

The couple we are trying to help is a "honeymooning couple" in their early twenties and this is the first time for them to travel out of the counrty. It is the son of a golfing buddy of my husband and the Dad is driving us crazy calling/emailing us with some really stupid questions...I want even go there. I told my hubby "maybe the Dad should come with the kids on their honeymoon!"

We told "Dad" that we will pick them up at the SJD, take them to the store to buy some food to keep in their condo, show them around town and take them back to SJD. Mmmmmm, sounds like "we" maybe on their honeymoon!

Thanks again for your help.

You mean they erase all of fees from any ATM in the world? Sounds ideal for traveling.

Sorry Bill...my Alzheimer kicked in again

USAA will reimburse up to $15 USD per month with a $600 USD daily limit which can be raised by calling USAA.

I could have sworn that USAA still charged a international usage fee, but now I am not able to find that info.

When I called USAA last week they confirmed "up to $15 USD reimbursement monthly and the $600 daily limit."

Are you thinking about the international conversion fees when using their Master Card? I would not think that would be waved or reimbursed...but it is worth a phone call to USAA. If you find out, past it along.

bigmike:
what type of account do you have with b of a? checking, savings, credit card or debit card? anything special about your account like a minimum balance?

i talked with a b of a rep and was told there was no fee to withdraw money with an atm card, but there was always a 3% foreign exchange fee. i'd like to get what you have. the fee i pay now is only 3.00 per transaction, but i like your fee schedule better.

Fandango,

Not trying to answer for Big Mike but I will be happy to share our experience with BOA. Like I said in an earlier posting we live in CSL nine months of the year and use our BOA ATM/Debt card at Santander all the time to withdraw pesos only and there is never a charge.

However one day while at Costco my blond kicked in and instead of using the Capital One credit card...which does not charge an international conversion fee, I used my BOA ATM/Debt card...which is also a Master Card too. The next day when I log onto BOA there was an international conversion fee on the charge at Costco.

I want to that again! Hope this helps and maybe Big Mike has some more info for both of us.

Forgot to say we have a interest checking account.

I live here full time and use my BoA debit card to get all my money.
I have never been charged a fee by Bank of America when getting money from Santander or Scottibank here in Mexico.
I have an interest checking acct and there is no required balance.
I know when I use to use the card at any other bank machine I would be charged $5.00 plus the international fee.
Now when I use Santander it tells me after I sign on that the fee I will be charged for the transaction is $.00 Karen my wife recently did the same thing at Costco and we were charged the international fee also.
I told her next time if she is short of cash go across the street to Comercial Mexicana and use the Santander machine first.

Hope that helps.
