Important beer question!
I have amassed a large amount of Pacifico bottles ( hard to believe, huh?). Both Ballena and media sizes. Way more than I need. My question to the
Baja beer experts....Can I take all my bottles to the deposito for a cash refund? I'm at maximum fridge capacity for beer so it would be ideal to get
rid of the extra bottles I have. Your Input appreciated...

If you have a receipt from the distributor. I used to just take extras back to the places I frequented and they'd do it but seems to have changed.
Maybe get a local to take them in for you.

Take just enough to pay for the beer you're buying. Takes a while but I bet they will go for it.

I noticed that the Modelorama in Los Barriles was buying back bottles...at a discount.
That's without a receipt.

Ok, so what you're saying bajalou is that I can walk into the deposito with say, 4 cases of empty medias... But all I want to buy is one case of
medias. They would just swap out the new single case for all the empties? That would be perfecto.

Just seems to me that the Deposito is on it's way to extinction. It wasn't too many years ago that Mexico had no bottles that were not for return. As
the major supermarket industry grew, voila!, cans and bottles that were not returnable were everywhere. If there was a Wall Street fund that "bet" on
litter, one could become very wealthy.

I think they will. What is the price for the beer - by the bottle? What is the deposit charge for a bottle? Take enough empties so he can make a
profit and everyone's happy.

Take all your bottles to the distributor and trade them for something you can use.
Forget what you think the exchange should be worth because it doesn't matter.
Just get the fly draw out of your house and carry on.
If that won't work.....throw all of them in the trash and don't buy deposit anything anymore.
Move on with your life.

I don't buy returnables any more because I'm really bad about taking them with me when I go to the store. I had 3 boxes of them and put them out by
the dumpster, they were gone within an hour. Made me feel good that some deserving local appreciated them......or wondered what stupid gringo left his
bottles out on the curb.....dt

I am going to assume that you have some sort of relationship with the deposito in your area; otherwise how could you have built up such a surplus of
bottles next
time you go in ask them
Used to be that you never saw an empty bottle anywhere but since the non return bottles have become so popular, you see them much more. It really is
one easy way to recycle without having to do anything but basically get them refilled.
I dont see any chance that the deposito will go out of business in my neighborhood
Cardon...suerte. Who would have ever thought that too many beer bottles would become a problem...eh? Actually the fact that they are empty is a huge
problem.

You're correct bajajudy...I'll simply ask them next time I'm there. But since i'm not sure when that might be I figured who better to ask than the
well informed masses on BajaNomad. This way I'll know what to expect. Thanks all for your input...

It used to be, you had to have a receipt and it couldn't be more then 2 days old, to get your deposit back, otherwise, no dice.

Excellent suggestion! I do that with TKT Lite aluminum cans. The compound's security guards usually snag them. It's somewhat disconcerting to see how
fast I fill up a garbage can with empty beer cans. ((((((((hic))))))))

Sounds like the foundation for a new Baja monument. Sam Rodia could have used all those bottles to build something.

don't you get "cancer" from drinking beer from CANS... yuk
the problem with the returns if the distributer has too many is
the beer company makes it hard to return them
extra paperwork ... but it is possible
here in town ...no receipt...1/3 the cost of the deposit is returned
i think this "forces participation" in drinking MORE beer
deposit is up to 78 pesos a case

i used to calc it at 40 cents a bottle when i was getting case exchanges on pacificos 20 bottle case boxed in cardboard at Panchos in mulege - my
exclusive supplier.
after a long stay like 2-3 weeks we'd load a 1/2 case to a case in the plane on departure - i am rarely checked in nogales. got me a cold one on
landing and a few to stock my bar in AZ.
fun to give out real mexican beers to visitors and friends that are in the returnable bottles.
problem was i never flew the empties back to baja.
