Hola gerald and welcome to the board. baja cactus is the number one rated hotel in el rosario and you do want to book one of the newer rooms. i stayed
in one of the older rooms a few years back and they are just adequate.
they also have secured parking and i believe are pet friendly as i did see another person there with a small dog. mama espinosa's restaurant is within
walking distance, about 100 yards south, as well as most of the small commercial part of town.
it is one door south of the pemex station and there is a large gate to pass through.

The rates are rediculously low for such a high class roadside inn... $35 or less... King beds, custom mattresses, 24 hour desk clerk, in roomcoffee
maker, pressurized deluxe showers, English/Spanish satellite TV with remote, bottled water (free), and the latest is a massage service (see post
recently made by zforbes).
Owned by Baja Nomad member 'BajaCactus' Antonio Muñoz, who has recieved awards from the State of Baja California Dept. of Tourism as well as private
travel organizations such as Vagabundos del Mar...

I posted the link to his site... but it only has the contact onfo... many potos posted here over the past 6 years since Antionio remodeled the place.
There are several security web cams at the motel and gas station monitored from the tele-communications room behind the office and from their
'corporate headquarters' in Tijuana where Antonio's family lives (most of the time).
I suggest you read posts by BajaCactus and get a feel for the high caliber person he is!

This man and his business in my opinion deserves all the promotion and customers he can get. BTW along Mex 1, I have formed an opinion that this is
the "coolest" area of both Baja's. Really nice hideout when coming northbound from summer heat and humidity.

Have stayed there many times - great rooms with reasonable prices. They are pet friendly as we have had our dog with us several times - they request
that the pets do not sleep on the beds, which makes sense, so we bring a sleeping pad for the dog. As I remember free WiFi also. Reserve one of the
newer rooms in the rear as the ones close to the highway can get a little noisy. Jim

A great big baja welcome to you Gerald to "Nomadlandia"...it would be nice to know a bit about you...many new members tell us a bit about themselves
so we can get to know each other better.
At first I thought this question was a joke....because nearly everyone here knows how awesome Baja Cactus is!!!! It is our absolute favorite hotel in
that area...actually...anywhere as you get a fabulous room for an affordable(for us) price...dont forget to ask for the Bajanomad discount!!! and get
a massage from their wonderful massuese there.

... and El Rosario is the perfect point to top up your fuel tanks if you are continuing south.
Its kinda like those commercials "Fuel... don't leave El Rosario without it".

Apologies to Antonio, as he is a really upstanding guy. But while I've stayed at Baja Cactus a number of times, and while no one can argue that the
fit and finish and the furnishings are topnotch, I'm just not a big fan of the town. That, plus, being located at the bottom of a long grade, and
adjacent to his Pemex station, I've always found the place to be a bit noisy. Frene con motor is the town slogan! No argument that folks who choose to
stay there find great value. Just not my cup.
And, all that said, before DK tries to lure the unsuspecting, absolutely, and unquestionably, if you are staying in El Rosario for the night, Baja
Cactus is the only place to consider. DK, being an El Rosario savant, has often extolled the virtues of several other places there. My recommendation
is that when traveling S/B, if you plan to stay in El Rosario, make a reservation at Baja Cactus. if you are headed N/B, and Baja Cactus is full, just
remember that San Quintin is merely 1/2 hour away, and has myriad accommodations far superior to all the other( Exception: Baja Cactus) places in El
Rosario.

Hola, with all due respect, it may be noisy to some with the frene de motor but to me, i'm just usually too tired to hear it and just enjoy the great
accomodations.
PLEASE....always support the baja cactus as he always takes care of the nomads and vagabundos going through either north or south and has the best
accomodations !!!! bar none !!!!!

Baja Cactus
Just imagine yourself crossing a long, arduous desert, with danger all around, and your only thought is to finally arrive at the long sought oasis in
the midst of your horrible journey.
That is how I perceive the Baja Cactus Motel.
Forget Bajahowadd and his whining about the sound of the jake brakes throughout the night.....believe me, when you finally land in Antonio's little
piece of heaven out there in the middle of nowhere, you will thank goodness you finally landed before dark, and you will have such a fine, inexpensive
haven to tuck into, and sleep well. You'll be exhausted. The jake breaks and highway noise won't bother you at all!!
Antonio and Baja Cactus (and his gracious Daddy) get a five star rating from me.

no hotel in El Rosario or Catavina can escape the traffic noise as they are ALL right on the highway...ni modo...kinda comes with the territory of
highway side motels eh.

For whatever reason, El Rosario is one of my favorite stops. Mama Espinosa's and Baja Cactus are a great combination for me.
