moped import fees?
Going to be moving near Ensenada indefinitely next month, and I was thinking about taking this old moped to putt around on that is about thirty years
old. Would anybody here know if I would let through with it on the back of my truck?, or is there some fee I would have to pay(I'm guessing that would
probably be the case)? Thanks!

if you leave it there you need to import it
if it comes back then no
you need some kind of registration for it to be street legal
and insurance

You also need to have your head examined [and eventually you probably will] if you intend to get out in traffic with one of those things.

the moped is registered in my name in CA as a motorized bicycle. Do you know what would happen if the moped that I am supposed to take back home with
me were to get stolen?

You arn't going anywhere with it. Just take it down there and play with it. Nobody will know or care.
Don't import it....don't even license it anymore if you don't want to.
Who knows what you're supposed to take home with you when you leave. You are entering the, "Nobody Cares" zone.
Don't make problems for yourself.

being aware of it. They're world is structured by regulations. Yours isn't. Enjoy the freedom.

Well, this one is actually considered a no-ped that doesnt meet the pedal requirements of a moped but is under 50 cc at 49cc. It is in a grey area but
probably is technically a scooter, but most people just register them as motorized bicycles and don't have any problems here in Cali. At least so far!
What difference would it make in Mexico?

It's really not a good idea for it to get stolen and then ride it. you could get into some trouble.
Just keep it here and ride it. it better to have it not registered than it has been reported stolen
We have people who have left cars and ATV here for years. So far never had a problem. WE did get checked once all the plates on all the trailers and
registration had to be verify. In the sheds they did not see the ATV and motor bikes. All the trailer had all the tires on them. So we did not have
any problems.

now you are talking about smuggleing stuff into mexico
to import or not to import
that's the question
jeremias has a scooter not a moped
mopeds are not required licenses in california
but scooters are
50cc and up are motorcycles
49cc and down are treated differently
both require motorcycle licenses to ride
bottom line ...
if you leave it here you need to import it
if it goes back with you...no need
the california license can stay on
to import it at the border you probably need a broker
i'd call ahead
what's a scooter with a 49cc engine worth
$500 to $1500 dollars
why insure it for theft
a rhino is worth WAY more
remember if you leave personal belonging in mexico when you leave you need at least an fm3
otherwise you are abandoning them and they can be taken
