Crossing south on Fridays

I know that afternoons are bad going southbound at San Ysidro on any given day, especially Fridays, but is there a time on Friday afternoons that it generally lightens up? Before dark???? Would love to get down there by Friday night, but if it's gonna be a nightmare would just wait until Saturday a.m.

Why don't you go over to Otay and Blvd 2000?

I know how to get to Otay, but is the signage good from there to Rosarito?

When I did it, well....I can't tell you. I drive alone and have to concentrate on road surface and traffic. I used intuition to guide me.
I believe there were a couple of places I could have used some direction although I didn't get lost.
Maybe someone else here can fill you in on that.

Just crossed southbound (TJ crossing) the Friday before the 4th of July weekend and there was no wait at all. I crossed about noon too! Was a little busy in TJ but never stopped.

Perhaps this will explain the lack of traffic at that time:

The bottle neck (3 lanes going in) is gone now. Just go, near dark will be fine! And if it isn`t, what`s a few minutes?

The three new southbound inspection lanes have definitely taken the sting out of crossing into San Ysidro at rush hour. I left the CostCo ChulaWanna lot at 5:30pm and was actually home in Rosarito at 6:00pm... a record.

TIP: Stay in the far left lane heading south. That lane lets you move over further to the left as you cross where you can get into one of the three new inspection lanes that are on the left.

They now have expanded the numbers of southbound inspections lanes to ten, up form 7. The only time there is a back up into Mexico is when the CBP decide to have southbound border inspections.

First, follow signs for TECATE CUOTA (2-D), go ~ 5 miles east towards the Tecate toll road entrance. This is BLVD. INDUSTRIAL.

Just about in sight of the first toll gate is a traffic circle with a BIGHORN SHEEP statue... This is the entrrance to the BLVD. 2000... exit right... should be signed for ROSARITO/ POPOTLA/ BC#201.

The CBP sit at a card table next to the traffic lanes there waiting for someone to have a change of heart and declare the $Million in cash.

They just finished the extra lanes. Traffic moves pretty well all the time. With the exception that US CBP decides to stop traffic at random times. Then it is slow moving. Fridays are no longer pure hell
